Pleasant hotel with a clean and modern appearance, not in the best location regarding itinerants but close to the main shopping drag and city Squares,
the room are sort of Ibis basic but on a grander scale, the shower and room services were all modern and worked well.
Cotton sheets, a decent firm bed and fair breakfast this hotel is ok.
our price at $95 a night was not cheap and I think the management could oversea the passage way cleaning a little better as the stained carpet and floor litter is not a good first impression.
That said it is clean, snow white walls and refreshingly modern so a nice change.

My wife and I stayed here early November 2013 the cost was US$85 per night incl breakfast. The room was clean modern the hall way carpet was worn but that didn't detract. The staff were friendly, prompt and businessman like. The breakfast was buffet and average. The internet (wifi) worked upstairs and downstairs. The area even though it is only 2 blocks from the main street was a little rundown and no shops open nearby. The Concert hall was on the other corner but even that didn't help to liven the street. My wife was wary when we went out at night because the street isn't well lit and there is no activity around the hotel

Room Tip: We were on the western side facing the port hence had a good view it also away from the street but t...

Friendly would be the adjective to describe the Orfeo Hotel. It is gay-friendly and smokers-friendly. The rooms are appropriate, fashionable and clean. The bathroom is comfortable, you are provided with hairdryer and hot water all the time.
You also have parking facilities and the hotel is situated in downtown Montevideo, a perfect place to walk around the Old City, near restaurants and theatres.
There´s a cozy breakfast and as I´m uruguayan, a very important issue: a heater for boiling water to have mate is always ready on the ground floor. It is safe and you just feel good in there. The bed is super comfortable. Highly recommended!!!!!

Room Tip: floor 5 is for smokers!!!!!!

Location, location, location. That's what staying at Orpheo has to offer you. You can easily walk to the main attractions located downtown. Walk 2 blocks and you get to 18 de Julio Ave and Plaza Independencia. Once you are there, you're minutes from everyting worth seeing in Ciudad Vieja. Or you can walk to the corner and turn left on Colonia St. Go down to the corner of Colonia and Convención St and you are at Confeitaria Oro del Rhin, where you can have some coffee or a snack together with the bakery's charm and tradition. If you need anything, there is a supermarket next to the hotel.

Besides location, the hotel is an excellent choice if you're looking for a 3-star hotel: friendly staff with very good English and Portuguese, room is clean but small (Ibis style), excellent shower, good breakfast.
If you're looking for a clean, good-service, well-located hotel, this one could satisfy your needs. I recommend it and would definitely stay there again. All in all, Orpheo has excellent cost-benefit ratio.

Excellent find. This was our second hotel in Montevideo and one I would be very happy to return to on future visits. The hotel has a great location - just two blocks from the Plaza Independencia. While some parts of this area are a bit run down, the hotel is brand new with a clean modern design, and sparkling clean. Rooms are a little small - hard to navigate if you have a lot of luggage - but well designed, quiet and very comfortable. Very comfortable beds, in-room safe, flat-screen TV, lightning fast wifi and brand new bathrooms with ample hot water. Walking distance to several excellent restaurants, and staff were extremely helpful in providing advice and assistance. Large buffet breakfast is also included. Everything you need, and great value for the quality provided.

Location can be a bit unnerving for someone not familiar with latin cultures. Room is clean, everything works, wi-fi, nice breakfast. Efficient and friendly staff. Priced well and invoiced in USD. Room was on the fifth (5) floor so the street noise was not an issue. The Independence Plaza is a short 2 block walk away and is fascinating.

Room Tip: Request away from the street on upper floors.

Very nice place, brand new. Great breakfast, comfortable beds, good location downtown.
We got a very good deal (US$ 66), so it was definitely worth it.
Rooms are small and get some noise from the street, but it wasn't that big of a deal.
We had some issues with the shower (it was hard to get the right temperature - it would change from too hot to too cold in a second), pillows were awful (we had a neckache the following day) and the side beds were kind of dangerous (I almoust hit my head). Front desk wans't that nice either. The website said there's parking no reservations needed but it was full when we got there and no one was really willing to help us out where to park the car. We ended up parking in fron of the theater across the street and it was fine.
Other than that, it's a great budget hotel downtown.
