I liked the old-fashioned furniture and the nice and helpful staff. Rooms are big and most of them have a balcony. The hotel doesn`t serve breakfast, but I recommend you to go to La Pasiva, just around the corner in Plaza Independencia to enjoy an uruguayan breakfast: capuccino, medias lunas (croissants) with dulce de leche (caramel cream) and a tostado mixto (ham and cheese sandwich). For dinner I recommend you the Cafe Bacacay, in the Bacacay Street, 5 minutes walk from the hotel. It's a nice and casual place where you can enjoy a good meal for a resoneable price. Cakes are great. An by night you can just walk to the mitical Fun Fun Bar to enjoy tango, candombe or just uruguayan live music while drinking the typical uvita, a sweet wine based drink invented there by the founder of the bar.

Room Tip: Make sure you room has a balcony. The upper rooms have bigger balconies with a great view over the o...

I loved this little family run hotel. The rooms are very basic but the price is very good. The location is excellent; right between the ciudad vieja and el centro. It is easy to walk around and seems very safe although some people I met from there told me that crime is a problem. It seemed much safer than other cities I've been in and didn't encounter anyone asking for money, offering drugs or other dangers/annoyances which some cities have. The family that runs it are very helpful at suggesting where to go and not to go. I would definitely recommend this hotel but if you are looking for high society you won't find it here.

There are a string of bars if you want to go out and stay close to the hotel. They are located on Mitre (the same street the hotel is on) and about a block towards the Rambla. The Irish bar was great especially if you want to try some of Uruguay's great micro brews - try the tap IPA!

Room Tip: Ask the staff to see the available rooms and you will be able to pick whichever suits you!

The differential of the hotel is the combination of excellent location, very friendly staff, interesting old style and honest prices.

Just don't expect a luxurious style, because the hotel is a typical "no frills". You can expect a basic and well preserved hotel, and depending on the season, a certain calm.

However, as a centrally located can be quite noisy during the day. But location is hard to reconcile with silence, and any traveler with some experience know that.

I recommend, and choose again the Palacio on a next visit to Montevideo.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street are a better choice; try to avoid the rooms facing a alley behind the hotel...

Just as everyone else says, it's a great central location, scrupulously clean, excellent service, and very cozy. The fridge was handy, they cleaned our room and bathroom every day, and the internet access was just fine. I loved the old school elevator and adored our little balcony. Highly recommend the place - we thought it was excellent value for dollar and was one of the best places we stayed in during our trip to several South American countries :)

Room Tip: Ask them for a room with a balcony.

Great location, very central. Old style hotel, very clean, internet access was fine, could not get a room with a balcony unfortunately as the hotel was fully booked during my stay. Still, there was a fridge in the room, the room was spacious, not well priced. My Portuguese is pretty much 'inexistent' which made it a bit more complicated to communicate but there is always 'google translate', helped a lot!

Great central location by plaza indepedecia in ciudad viejo (old town), close to the mercado, and ocean view walkway. Very clean and friendly staff. Wi-Fi was reliable and reached everywhere. The room was cozy with a great view on a little balcony. One can feel the former glory of this hotel established in the 1920´s. The price was equal, if not cheaper than most hostels. An antique with soul.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view from the back of the hotel are superb.
