We stayed for 9 days at this resort. The room we had was facing the sea, which was for us the "dream-holiday". Step out of your bed, open the door and look at the ocean.....

Breakfast was ok, nothing special. There was a problem with the aircon. The maintenance guy came the other day and fixed it. Really friendly and helpful staff.
The resort in general might need a bit more attention of the maintenance guy: sliding doors, bathrooms, air conditioning units, but I'm sure this will be fixed really soon as seen the other reviews.....

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We do have a regular room check and maintenance program in place at the Sunset Resort but it is always helpful when guests report any issues to us as they happened . That way we attend to them immediately . We want all of our guests to feel that their comfort is our priority so thank you for bringing your air con issue to our attention.
We hope to see your back at the resort for your winter break next year.

Regards
Management and Staff at the Sunset Resort

We had one night here as a stopover on the way back from Aitutaki. Transfers from and back to the airport were efficient and friendly. The accommodation was very nice. It was spacious, clean and had a comfy bed. The resort gardens were beautiful, the feeling of the whole place was welcoming and lots of excursions/activities were on offer. Loved the hammocks on the beach. Not the best beach for swimming/snorkelling, as the reef was quite close and at high tide it was a bit choppy and at low tide you were a bit too close for comfort to the coral. However with two lovely pools this did not bother me and I understand there are nicer places to snorkel fairly close. We ate lunch and dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed both. All in all, a great place to stay. Lovely atmosphere.

We stayed here for 6 nights and could have easily stayed here for ever. The welcome and check in was easy and friendly, the rooms were spotless with air con.

There is an onsite restaurant which we tried the breakfast, dinner and snacks once. The food is good but nothing amazing, but again the staff give great service.

There is also another bar next to their small pool where you can order cocktails which we did in the evening and took down to the beach to watch the sunset. It really does live up to its name with the best sunsets you could wish for.

The resort pretty much has it's own stretch of secluded beach but the sea isn't the best for swimming in, but there are a couple of other resorts nearby where you can easily go and buy a drink and use their loungers to access the beach.

Perfect for couples looking for a quiet place with great service to relax away from the hustle and bustle of a big resort.

We are defiantly a resort for couples and find that couples return again and again to stay with us due to our no children under 12 policy. I was surprised to see that you did not enjoy our beach . We often have reports on how great the snorkelling is just out from the resort. It was great to read that you experiences some of the wonderful Sunsets that we have directly off our beach at The Sunset Resort ! :-) I am glad that you got to enjoy other parts of the island as well .The flexibility of our resorts( being able to eat and swim and visit other beaches ) is truly one of the things that makes Rarotonga different from other island destinations.

Spent 5 nights and would have liked to stay longer. The staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were well maintained, the views were beautiful and especially loved watching the sun go down in the company of other guests. Gardens were well maintained and the resort was not too big. Better beaches for snorkelling not too far away. Would definitely want to visit again.

Room Tip: Beachfront would be my first choice, then Rooms 9 & 10. Poolside also great.

I am a paraplegic and my family and I stayed here for 10 days. Their accessible rooms have large wet area bathrooms and access to and from the rooms have small ramps where required.
The room we stayed in was close to the road and while there was a little road noise this was a minor distraction and the island "early bird"roosters made more noise.
The dining room, pools and beach can all be accessed by wide paths and no steps. There are sloped areas that may require a push depending on your strength and skill level.
There are two pools, the larger one goes from 30- 300cm deep and is long enough to swim lengths. There is plenty of room to get a wheel chair to edge of the shallow end and to transfer to and from the pool.
There is a wide grassed area near the beach with shade areas that are ideal for wheel chair users to get fantastic beach and sunset views.
The staff are absolutely fantastic, from Tim and Colleen the managers, Jamie at reception down to the gardeners, they all welcomed you with a smile and nothing was a problem. Manu helped me on several occasions to get tools to adjust my wheel chair and to give me a helping hand into and out of their minibus.
The team from Cook Island Divers run free pool dive sessions two mornings per week and helped me do a reef dive(see separate Trip Advisor review).
The grounds are immaculate and this is a great resort to relax and unwind at.
While this resort is close to town we would highly recommend hiring a rental car during your stay as it gives easy access to the many sites and restaurants around the island.
We checked out a couple of other resorts but would definitely stay at Sunset Resort again as it was so well set up for wheelchair users.

Room Tip: Accessible rooms are close to the road and there is a little noise, but the noise was minimal. The...

Thank you for taking the time to write such a personal and detailed review. We are one of the only properties on the Island that offers disabled facilities and we are thrilled that you found your room provided you with everything that you needed to enjoy your family holiday. Our staff are wonderful and I will make sure that I hand on your comments to everyone and especially Manu.Unfortunately those rosters are early morning risers all over the island.!!!! But I am pleased that you got to experience a really menorible holiday. Please make sure you send us an email address so that we can send you our regular newsletter and updates for when you decide to return to us.

Handy to town, great restaurants and easy walks. Have been visiting Raro for 14 years and wish we had found this place earlier. Beach not the best for snorkelling but you don't have to go far to find a good spot .... down by the Rarotongan Beach Resort is good for all tides. Terrific swimming pools ... yes, 2 of them!
And no kids ... great. Sorry we do like kids but we go on holiday to get away from normal noises kids make and this place is relatively quiet and peaceful.
Good breakfast and pleasant restaurant surroundings. Very helpful and friendly staff.
And as from mid 2014 you can drive a car on a NZ Driver's License ... this is good news as it saves the hassle of going to the Police Stn.

Room Tip: 2nd floor Garden & Pool View Room facing north (not roadside) is ideal for privacy yet with a ni...

My family and I spent 2 weeks here in June. We stayed in an ocean front cabin. The rooms were kept spotless each day, the staff was exceptional, the views from the patio are beyond what words can describe.

We will, without a doubt, be back.
