I stayed for 1 night, with a late checkout until midnight for an early morn flight. I choose this property for convenience to Avarua facilities, and the fact that a late checkout until midnight was available and affordable. This motel is best suited to the very independent traveller/business people who know their way around the island well, and who seek out a comfortable bed to rest, and space within the room to spread out. No frills are available here, and I wasn't looking for any either! There were few guests during the time I stayed and this suited my preferences very well. Parking immediately outside the motel was handy. Beware the road can become extremely noisy once the surrounding bars close. I would stay here again, inspite of the minor nuances described. Why? I got a very good deal from the onsite host for my length of stay. All up, Central Motel is a good find for the budget concious and overnighters market on Raro. Proximity to the airport reduces the cost of a transfer.. Telecom's internet bureau via the short-cuts across the road: as I didnt have a lap-top. Trader Jacks for bistro meals and ocean views.

Convenient. Walk to all shopping, bus station, choice of good dining. Small family store just up the road for milk, bread, and the morning paper. walk to bnana bar or Salsa bar for breakfast. Secure parking for your scooter. What else do you want?

NOt the place you would want to spend the whole holiday. I am sure there would be better for your money elsewhere.

This may not be the worst hotel in the world, but it certainly feels like it, particularly on such a paradise island. I had the extreme misfortune to stay here while in the Cook Islands for a 2 week conference - I checked out after 2 days, but still after all those years the unfortunate memories are burned on my memory. Where to begin... the ultra cheap furnishings and beddings, the appalling aged bathtowels, the insects, the terrible location (in a island full of beautiful beach vistas, this place is stuck on a nondescript inland road), the lack of privacy (rooms face each other and have full length glass windows - to get privacy you need to close the curtains, but that, of course, involves actually touching the curtains - yikes), the horribel grimy feel of the place (I didnt feel comfortable touching the floor, the bed, or indeed any surface in the hotel) . Above all, what really got me was the lack of security - the hotel also rents rooms "by the hour", and on one occassion I had to step over a couple who had taken a room for the hour and then collapsed, drunk (or something) right outside my door - there are all sorts of strange people wandering in and out of the place all day and night. The owner made a half-hearted attempt to clear away the "by the hour" clients, but they were all back again before long. This place is clearly decades old, but has not been renovated and is squarely aimed at the bottom of the bottom end.

The Central Motel was only ever a stopver place to get some sleep and have a shower before leaving on a 3am flight out of Raro. Definately don't have anything bad to say about the motel - but we didn't expect much.

Melcolm was very helpful - picked us up from the airport, also make dinner reservations and booked a taxi to the airport.
