“Great for a quick stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2014

We needed a place to stay for an overnight stop close to the airport. This was perfect! We had to be at the airport early in the morning. It is a quick 5 minute walk to the airport. Had supper in the restaurant at the hotel and it was a very nice meal. The room was very clean and quiet. Would definitely recommend, especially if you have just come in from the airport or have to leave early in the morning.

We have eaten several meals at this restaurant and found it very handy as it is across the road from the Airport. The staff showed us around the revamped accommodation which appeared comfortable. The rates are reasonable. The view out to sea and the swimming pool beside the dining tables help to make this place very convenient and pleasant to visit. Meals and service are both very good.

Room Tip: We have not stayed here but the accommodation appears to be very comfortable........not five star bu...

Reception staff were very offhand when we arrived; it seemed like we were a nuisance and interrupting their day. Shown to the room; very basic & not helped that we were greeted by two very large cockroaches! No radio, TV or clock. One (old) towel each on the bed; a packet with soap in the bathroom; a bar fridge with two cups and one saucer; basic tea and coffee supplies. The place is very tired and would struggle to get 2 star rating in NZ. Overnight it was extremely noisy with people, staff and children up and down the corridor talking loudly so very little sleep. The bed was a 'king' but in fact was two non-matching singles pushed together; one with a definite lean towards the floor. We were surprised to find breakfast available in the morning as this had not been mentioned when we booked in. It was perfectly adequate with toast & spreads and a selection of fruit. On the plus side the views from the windows and around are fantastic and a good number of loungers and hammocks are available. The pool available from 0800 - 1800 was a welcome cool off time. This place has heaps of potential not being realised.

Room Tip: All rooms are ground floor and have lovely sea views.

We stayed there the same night as NZKB2010 (All Black vs Argentina night) and had a totally different experience.
Rooms are basic, simple, with great views. No aircon but a ceiling fan.
We stayed the whole day at the beach and the staff was very accommodating. Food was nice too, delicious salads, seafood, pizzas (we ate there on our way back too).
Beds are comfortable and view is beautiful. Pool is a nice add on.
Would stay there again

1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2013

We stayed here for one night after the last flight in from Aitutaki and were booked on the first flight to NZ the following morning. After a fabulous 3 weeks of friendly people and a great time we checked in to this pit. The front desk clerk was rude, unfriendly and totally non welcoming. The All Blacks were playing Argentina when we arrived and the entire bar area was full of rugby fans showing their annoyance at our group checking in. We took our bags to our room, which was ghastly, down what I'd call a grotty service alley with all the toilet outlets coming through the wall and under the hallway we were in. We had two other couples with us who we'd been kite surfing with us in Aitutaki, they were flying to Australia on the 2am flight so stored their bags in our room. We all went back to the bar to get something to eat. It was approx 8:30pm Friday night. We asked for a menu thinking we could get some bar food at least and were informed in a really unpleasant way 'do you see any lights on in the kitchen?' then a roll of the eyes by the barman who pointed out that 'No lights - NO FOOD'. Come on, this is a hotel that especially caters for the airport traveller - no other reason to stay in such a hideous place, set between two oil tank yards. So we all got drinks and retired to a picnic table outside as the only free seats were under the rugby screen and we'd had to run the gauntlet each time we went inside - not feeling very welcome by now. The others left at midnight for the airport and hoping to find food there, we fell into bed hungry. After a bad night's sleep we showered - only one towel, tried to make coffee - there was a jug and cups - nothing to put in them, thought we'd have the complimentary continental breakfast - until we saw the pitiful offering, not something you'd want to eat - not to mention no lights on, no coffee, no tea. Checkout was us leaving our key on the desk - no staff in sight even though it was 7am. What a hideous hideous place. We have since learned from a friend in Raro that the owners had gone belly up and the bank was in charge of the place - I pity anyone who has a booking for this hell hole. Hopefully someone with a clue buys it and knocks it down. The rooms all have a reasonable view but you can't go outside without traveling down the grotty hallway and going through the bar. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Room Tip: Stay away, no nice rooms.

We did what everyone else does - check in before a 2.00am flight so we could relex and have a showever etc. Place is 2 1/2 star (equal to a NZ 2 1/2 star), not flash. Beds were comfortable, bathroom adequate but you had to turn the tap at the wall to fill up toilet, ceiling fan was extremely rusty, I wouldn't drink anything unless I saw them open a bottle - e.g. steiny. Locals get pizzas there which they recommend. Service from a Fijian man was great. Chef or owner? not good at all. No TV in room however big screen in restaurant and very noisy and no direct access from room to beach.
Location to airport fantastic (1 min walk).

We stayed here for one night as we had an early morning 3am flight and its close to the airport. I must say location wise it is fantastic, close to town and to the airport. However we were hoping to get a few hours sleep before our flight but all the rooms are off a long corridor - so you can here people running down the corridor or kids crying, we could also here the people in the room next to us showering. There is a fan in the room which doesn't do anything and no aircon or bug screens on the window. We ended up having to open the windows as it was so warm and ofcourse all the mozzies came in. There were cockroaches everywhere, we picked up our bags which had been on the bed next to us when we left and they all crawled out from under there. No soap or body wash or shampoo etc in the shower or bathroom. I am pleased we were only here for a few hours and not our whole holiday!
