We heard wonderful things about this tour, however our experience really wasn't up to standard. To start with we ended up having to wait 45 minutes at the pick up point, as we were coming from Suva, we had to take a taxi to the Art Village which was about an hr away and considering we arrived early, had to ait around even longer. Following the short drive back towards Suva, we then had to wait for another 20-30 minutes as the boats weren't ready, given we were already running at least 30 minutes late from when we were supposed to depart this should have been more organised.
The trip up the river was lovely, the scenery was spectacular. We had a relatively large group and as such we did the rafts early, on the way up the river, I found it be disappointing as we took longer to get onto the raft then we actually spent on it moving anywhere.
Following the rafts and our long morning waiting we were looking forward to getting to swim at the waterfall, however this wasn't to be as our group was quite large, 4 boats in total, and so only two boats got to stop at the waterfall on the way and we were promised we would stop on the way back. So we continued up the river, by this time it was quite hot and the sun was high overhead. Arriving at the village, the boatmen didn't seem to know what to do, so we hovered in the water for a while before we got to get out of the boat. We received a lovely greeting from the villagers and were led to where the welcoming ceremony would take place, considering we had already spent hours in the sun it was a nice break, but we then had to wait another 30minutes for the two boats that got to swim then to catch up. More waiting!!!
Given we were now running ridiculously late, we got no information about the village, the dances seemed half-hearted and a little rushed, as did the welcoming ceremony. When we did the tour the children were getting ready to go home, doing their last activity of the day, sport which we were allowed to say hello to but then were led back for lunch and a short amount of souvenir buying which was quite generic. From there we finished quickly and were taken back to the boat, where, surprise surprise, we went straight back to the dock without stopping for a swim and taking everything quickly such that the swim was replaced with a soaking without ever having to leave the boat.
All in all, I wish I asked for some kind of discount, I enjoyed the scenery and some parts of the village but was incredibly disappointed in the quality of the entire tour! Not worth the money we paid!
