We had one of our best family holidays ever at the Fiji Intercontinental and I would credit this to the great location, super-friendly staff and variety of activities on offer. This has to be the best option on the mainland.

Our beachfront suite was great (although would probably go for a groundfloor suite next time as this provides direct access to the beach. Privacy is better on the first floor though).

You are guaranteed not to get bored as there are activities galore...you have to try a few of the watersports to truly appreciate the beautiful ocean.

The food was average (but keep in mind that most of it is imported) and as other reviewers have noted, the breakfast offering can be a bit better. I also thought they needed more staff on the hot food stations...there was quite a wait for poached eggs for example. Order your coffee as you take your seat as the waiting time can be extensive. We also struck tables without all the necessary cutlery (missing spoons, knives) on a couple of mornings. The themed dinners at Sanasana restaurant make for a welcome change in the daily menu. We were impressed with the lunch at the poolside restaurant, particularly the pizzas! Waiting staff's service around the pool area can be improved - we'd spent roughly 6 hours at the pool every day for six days (yes - the kid's pool is that great!) and with the exception of 2 times, had to go and hunt down the waiting staff ourselves.

The gym is adequate with 3 treadmills, a couple of bikes and some weights. It isn't a big area and so gets crowded relatively quickly so try and avoid the morning rush (mid-afternoons were perfect).

Kids Club - take the listed daily activities as a rough guide only. Depending on the number of kids enrolled they do alter this somewhat. If there is an activity you particularly want your child to participate in make sure you bring it to the attention of the staff. I was somewhat dissapointed when I picked my daughter up to hear that they have watched a couple of DVDs (which wasn't listed as an activity on any of the days) as this is something they can do staying home. It is my opinion that you pay to enrol your child to be entertained by the staff themselves...

We found the hotel's private airport transfer option from the airport perfect. Ask to have Panto Singh as your driver - he is a wonderful tour guide as well!

Finally, we would have appreciated firm management feedback as to the tsunami threat to guests on the morning of the Samoa earthquake. We were alerted by family in NZ first thing in the morning after which we rang hotel reception and the concierge - both of whom couldn't give us any information on the likely threat to Fiji. At least the concierge said she will make contact with the Fiji weather service. If staff were well briefed by senior management they could have provided a comforting message to guests. It doesn't take much for a massive panic to set in and this can be averted by guests feeling confident that management is monitoring the situation and being clear as to the process if the threat is real. This may be something management wish to take on board?

All in all, I would recommend the Fiji Intercontinental as well worth going to. We are already looking at booking our next stay!

This place has it sorted, if you are after a treat then this is it. From the moment you arrive they already know your name to a slick check in on the cosy sofas! The rooms are huge with designer furnishings throughout. Their signature Cleopatra baths are especially dreamy when coupled with your favourite tunes playing softly on your own Bose system. We had beachfront suites one upper and the other lower, the lower suite being ten steps to the beach. The beach is a real white sandy beach and sunset facing. The Infinity pool is seductive and visually drops off to the ocean. As you would expect from a plush 5 star resort there are a variety of culinary treats available. Bravo Intercontinental!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa for 8 blissful nights. We were looking for somewhere which wouldn't take long to get to from Sydney where we could fully relax for a week and get away from it all. As soon as we drove into the beatifully lit hotel entrance we were greeted by smiling Fijians playing traditional music. We were given a fruit cocktail and shell necklace and straight away we knew it would be a magical week. Our beachfront suite was immaculate and very spacious and comfortable. We overlooked the beach and loved the outdoor bathtub, day beds and sun lounges. The beachfront or lagoon rooms are the best and I would recommend ground floor. The day spa was excellent and I would recommend going 45 minutes early to make the most of your treatment by going into the wai zone - steam room, hydrotherapy spa and ice room. The main restaurant was very good and we had most of our meals there - the buffet menu is changed every night to a different global theme which makes it interesting. There could be more options for breakfast, but I'm sure this will come with time as the Hotel has just opened. We had lunch every day at the pool bar while enjoying the sun and views from our 'love pod' day bed. There is a separate adult / kids pool which made it very relaxing and quiet where we sat. Navo - the specialty restaurant - is a must and the sashimi was the best I've ever tasted. Other must-dos are a snorkal safari and scuba dive with the dive centre next to the adult pool. Make the most of the concierge desk as they are very helpful and very happy to arrange anything you want to do. Best of all is the warm, friendly service of the Fijians working at the Hotel - I've never seen so many smiling faces in my life! Can't wait to return.....

This resort is incredible. I have no complaints at all. The facilities, amenities, service, food, massage and off course the golf course…all outstanding. It is really worthy and a very good value for money. If you want to relax and do nothing more than relax and see the sea view and enjoy the resort facilities..This is the best place to go. Don’t expect the beach in front to be the dream beach with white sand and crystal and calm water. The beach is nice, a bit rough thought. We stay in this resort after enjoying a cruise around some island. The resort has plenty activities organized during the day …like Yoga, Power Walking, Golf Clinics , Snorkeling etc.. , you will never get bore.

Lovely white sandy beach, beautiful rooms and great staff. We had a great holiday there. The food was great in the Novo restaurant and based on the quality of the service, ambience and food we found it to be exceptional value. We travelled with our 13 year old daughter who found there was lots to do at the resort. She loved the tubing and other water sports. The pool areas are also excellent.

My wife and myself were very negative and in the wrong frame of mind before arriving at our room as a month before we arrived we requested a ground floor i bedroom ocean view suite and an early check in, to cut a long story short after arriving at 10.45am we got to our 1st floor suite at 2.30pm and we were cranky. We stepped into buree 2222 and it was like heaven , a very modern tastful place that we loved, we like luxury having stayed at places such as Four Seasons Hong Kong, Twin Palms Phuket, Four Seasons New York and this place shapes up very well, A few negatives are the policing of the adult only pool at one stage there were 12 people in the pool and 10 of them children maybe they should have more signs, all in all the holiday is so far very enjoyable and we are not looking forward to returning home tomorrow.

PS. Recommend the massage

We travelled to the Intercontinental with our 8, 4 and 16mth old children.
When we arrived in Nadi we were greeted by our transfer driver who was lovely and were all given shell necklaces. He stopped off at the local gas station so we could get drinks......which was very thoughtful and appreciated. When we got to the hotel, the entrance is stunning. We were greeted with drumming, more shell necklaces, beaming smiles, a glass of juice and lots of staff saying bula! It was amazing and our kids loved it.
The rooms are gorgeous and the cleopatra tubs are superb. I wished I could have packed it up in our luggage. The kids couldn't get into the tub quick enough each night as they could all fit and every night I had to drag them out of there. Each day the rooms were cleaned well and the staff are so friendly. One note.........each day the cleaning seemed to be done differently. We did have to keep getting our milk for in room coffee replenished. They didn't seem to know to replace the coffee and milks. It's never a problem though. There is always staff willing to help and fix anything you need. We also had turn down service each night, which was lovely.
The food at the resort seems to have improved a lot since the earlier reviews. We had the buffet breakfast each day and the kids loved it. It's not perfect but there were good dishes. Plenty of cereals and delicious pastries. Some of the food is overcooked. When ordering your coffees........order first thing. Many mornings it took 20 mins for them to get to our table. The staff are again nice in the restaurant. Please keep in mind we did notice that they all work very long hours, so remember to thank them, as they all work hard. We ate lunch every day at the Toba Bar and Grill. The food here is the best in the resort as far as we were concerned. Everything is delicious. Service could be improved upon. Sometimes it was good and others, they were totally on Fiji time. The kids ate free and their meals were also great. If you have kids..........have them order the chocolate mousse!! It's the best mousse ever. Our kids got sick of eating it, but we'd have them order it, just so we could have it! The pizzas are delicious as well as their burgers.
We ate at the Navo one night and it is beautiful. The setting is lovely, but our food was disappointing. Our fish was overcooked and like a previous poster said, we had the creme brulee and it was awful. It was overcooked, curdled and tasted like scrambled eggs. One comment I have to make is that it might depend on the night you go. Our friends went another night and their meals were lovely. I think it wouldn't hurt for the chefs to be trained more in the way western meals are prepared. It seems they struggle a lot with western dishes.
The resort overall is stunning and I mean breathtaking. I did have a traditional fijian massage at the Spa and it was wonderful. The Spa is gorgeous and well worth a visit. There is plenty to do around the resort. Tours, activities etc. We preferred to stay by the kids pool or go to the beach. The infinity pool is picture perfect. Apparently the church visit and the cave tours are great. We did do a fishing trip through the resort. We had seen many people come back with giant Mahi Mahi's but failed to catch anything. The guys who take you out are wonderful though and it was a great experience.
Every night they have a torch lighting ceremony at the front fo the Kama Lounge. It's fantastic. Our kids thought it was very cool. It gives you a slice of fijian culture and is a must see. We had a few mojito's while watching the sunset and torch lighting. Talk about paradise. The one bad note I had about the resort is when it rains. There isn't proper drainage around the main areas, therefore it gets very wet and flooded in places. We ate dinner at the Toba bar one night with our feet swimming in water. None of the staff were trying to clear it away at all. I would have thought they should have had people mopping up the water to make it safe for guests. Seriously if it rains make sure you wear thongs as your feet will be very wet walking around the resort. I hope that someone will try to fix that problem. It wasn't that safe at times as I did see people slip.
Now to the staff. They are amazing. I've never met such bunch of people who are so happy and so kind. They adored our kids and our kids loved them. Always willing to help and do whatever you needed. They were mostly what made our trip so amazing!!! Their nature is lovely and we felt so welcomed. Our 16mth old would wave and say "Bula" to all of them. The resort should be complimented on such great staff.
To sum it all up. The resort is overcoming it's teething problems and getting a lot better. Is it perfect, no but it sure was heaven to us. We were very sad when it was time to leave and are already planning to go back next year. I have never come across a place that I would immediately go back to, but the Intercontinental has changed that. It was the best family holiday we have ever had!!
