“Paradise, best ever holiday”
Reviewed 5 March 2011

We arrived at this resort for the first time with our family of 6 and 2 friends. We generally stay in australian resorts. WOW what a difference, aussie resorts can take a leaf out of the book of hospitality of Fijians. BULA!!!! to our of our new found friends Keylera, Anna, Aseri, Marica, Naomi , Basil and many more who made our stay the best we could ask for.
Nothing was too much trouble for our Talai butler service, buggy drivers, house maids and restaurant staff. Our Beach front Bures were kept beatifully clean, the cocktails were great and the IVY restaurants steaks the best we have ever eaten.
We will be back next year, we had planned doing Hawaii but after this hoiday its hard to imagine anything better. Congratulations to the GM Peter Hapgood on providing this unforgettable holiday.

We were there for a friend's
wedding recently. It was all you'd expect from a 5 star resort in terms of aesthetics. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. But there was no rush about anything. If you order a drink by the pool, prepare to wait 15 minutes for your change and another 10 for the drink. This didn't really bother me but my friend got very frustrated by it. Any suggestion of hurrying up is met with a relaxed comment about Fiji time.
We dined at the ivi, the gourmet restaurant. The food was excellent, but we booked for 7pm and didn't get our mains until after 9pm.

The other issue is paying for your drinks and food. They want to charge it to your room, but this doesn't work when you're sharing with a friend. It seems paying cash is a big irritation to them, but the whole roomcharge system works on an honesty policy as they ask for no proof of which room you're in. When we got the bill, there was over $300 charged in error. A couple had charged a dinner to our room, some restaurants charged us even though we provided vouchers, and there were spa treatments on the bill as well.
It took a long time to fix and was generally a poor experience upon checkout. I thought perhaps giving the door keys specific numbers, and requesting to see those before charging things to the room, would save a lot of drama - plus everything we deleted off our bill would have been free for someone else.

This was our third trip to Outrigger but this time we came with our five adult children, their partners and three small grandchildren - fourteen in all. Our previous butler Koroi was now head butler and we were welcomed like old friends. He did not cease to amaze us with his wonderful charm and consideration. He knew everyone's names soon after we arrived and seemed to know who was doing what at all times. The staff in all areas exceeded our expectatiions in regards to kindness and friendliness. Our butler Jonatani put up with our boy's antics and provided them with an ice filled eski and even had a go at aussie rules handballing.

This time around we found plenty of activities to do at the resort (and won a few prizes) and we also ventured out to play golf at the Shangrila resort and shop at Sigatoka. We found taxis an ideal way to travel and much cheaper than hiring a car. We were provided with a taxi van and baby seats for our day trip. The beach, although not like the island beaches still provided fun for the grandchildren and kayaking for the adults.

The bures are lovely at this resort and everything is beautifully maintained. Our family was impressed with the beautiful tapa in each bure as well as the attention to detail in the cleanliness of the rooms.

Bebe spa is my favourite spa. It is a wonderful place to have a champagne and tapas overlooking the ocean, have a luxurious treatment or laze on the day beds. Our therapists were kind and considerate.

The level of service in this resort would be hard to surpass and we know we will return again. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the staff at Outrigger.

The team at Outrigger on the Lagoon . Fiji, sincerely thank you for your kind words on Trip Advisor!
We are absolutely thrilled that you could come back for your 3rd visit and bring with you the extended family!
Koroi, our Head Butler is an absolute legend! I am not sure if you were aware, but he has 5 children of his own! I am always amazed how the Fijians remember everybody’s names??
We were pleased to note that you enjoyed the new and improved facilities at the resort. The whole team are doing a wonderful job in making sure that all aspects of the resort present immaculately at all times!
I am also a big fan of the Kalokalo bar above Bebe Spa. Quite often my partner and I, pop up there for a chilled sav blanc and Tapas, to watch the stunning sunsets!
BlueUlys, once again we thank you for your positive feedback on the resort! We look forward to the day when you return to Outrigger on the Lagoon . Fiji for your 4th visit!

This was my first trip to Fiji with my brother - from the moment we arrived at the hotel it was great Vanessa at reception is fantastic. We stayed in a Bure that had a Butler who where both great and extremly helpfull. We had four nights quick getaway from our busy workplaces. It was extremely relaxing with a lot of options to do on the days. From tennis, golf, kayaking, diving, snorkling, water sports and grass sports. The food was also great must go to the buffet it is really nice so are all the staff. I would definetly recommend this hotel to other people as it was truely fantastic even for our short 4 night stay. The hotel swimming pool is fantastic you can always find a place to swim by yourself it is that large.

If you are looking for a place to stay with young children and have the most wonderful relaxing holiday, then stop right here at the Outrigger, because this place has got it all!
We stayed at the Outrigger for seven nights in February with our two young children, 6 and 2, and my father and stepmother. We could not recommend this resort higher, we had the best holiday ever, the service was outstanding, the food was excellent, no matter which restaurant or bar we went to, our room was beautiful and always clean and tidy, the grounds were just stunning, the staff was absolutely brilliant - it was just like paradise! The Fijian people are one of the nicest and gentle people we have ever come across.
There is so much to do at the resort that you hardly have time to leave it. We left the resort once to visit a local village five minutes down the road, where a few of the resort staff live. We enjoyed a welcoming ceremony with the chief of the village, drank Kava and learned a lot about the Fijian way of life. Apart from that, it was all happening at the resort, the daily program is jam packed and there is something for everyone, it started with an early morning power walk or a guided reef tour at low tide, followed by pool aerobics, water volley ball, basket weaving and hat making demonstration, free scuba diving lessons at the pool, watermelon cracking, coconut bowling on the pool lawn or coconut throwing on the beach, tennis, golf, kayaking, shopping trips to the nearby town of Sigatoka, and this is just to mention a few, and some of the highlights at night were the international crab race and frog race, which was just hilarious, so much fun for the kids!
After reading a lot of comments on trip advisor about the ‘world famous’ pizza at the Sundowner Restaurant, we were looking forward to one of those, but unfortunately, the restaurant was closed down for renovation two days before we arrived. Bad luck for us, but we certainly enjoyed the food in all the other bars and restaurants, the Asian food at the Baravi Restaurant was just excellent, between the four of us we pretty much had every dish the menu had to offer, and the food was just excellent. The same applies to the breakfast buffet, the fresh fruit station just had the best papaya we ever had, and all the other food we got either from the restaurants or the pool bar. Our children enjoyed their meals, especially the ice cream that came with it every time! We went to have dinner at the Ivi Restaurant on our last night, and it was not just dinner, it was quite an experience! They prepared the Caesar salad on front of us, and it was just the best salad, just as the rest of the food, it was certainly fine dining at its best! We told the staff that my father and my stepmother were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this year, and at the end of the dinner the staff came out singing, congratulating them with a piece of chocolate cake, it was just wonderful, and because it is the second marriage for both of them, it made it all even more special!
We can't thank the team at the Outrigger enough for making our holiday so perfect! We are definitely coming back next year and we can't wait to get back and jump in the pool, walk along the beach, go for a dive, have a look at the newly renovated Sundowner Restaurant and just enjoy the friendliness and wonderful hospitality the Outrigger resort has got to offer! Vinaka and see you again soon!!

Dear RichardA
Thank you so much for your warm comments on your recent Trip Advisor feedback!
Once the team saw your photograph they knew exactly who you were! They were thrilled to read your expansive comments!
In particular the boys from our activities team loved the photo of your junior warrior by the pool!
It sounds as though you experienced a great number of the activities that we have on offer!
It is all about fun and relaxation at Outrigger on the Lagoon . Fiji!
We sincerely apologise that our Sundowner Restaurant was closed for renovations. It will re-open on the 1st May as the new Sundowner Bar and Grill – a classic Char Grill and Pizzeria restaurant! And yes! Our world famous Sundowner pizzas will be even better! In the meantime we are offering a full pizza menu at our Baravi Restaurant.
I was delighted to learn that you had an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful cuisine in our fine dine restaurant, Ivi. It is a “must do” experience at the resort! I concur with your comments on the Caesar salad – It is the best Caesar that I have ever tried!
RichardA, we thank you again for your warm and friendly commentary! We look forward to the day when you return to our beautiful resort!

Bula!!
We couldn't be any happier with our decision to spend our honeymoon at The Outrigger on the Lagoon. From the moment we arrived, we were in a state of relaxed bliss.
We opted to do a room upgrade (being such a special vacation) & stayed in a Ocean Breeze Bure. The bure was FANTASTIC! Our Talai Butler spoiled us daily with an assorted of canapes & drinks. (She even spelt out our names in flower petals on the bed one night ~ which was absolutely beautiful!!)
The service we received from all the staff was 5 star!!
Whilst at the Outrigger we treated ourselves to a visit at the Bebe Spa (AMAZING), went horse back riding on the beach & enjoyed many a long walk on the beach (so romantic at sunset.)
We can not rave enough about our holiday at The Outrigger on the Lagoon & can't wait to return!!

We stayed at the Outrigger from 24 Jan through to 31 Jan 2011. From the moment we arrived at the Outrigger we were greeted with the best Bula and thoughtful reception. We were handed refresher towels and cool drinks at the reception desk. Our arrival was quite late at night but we soon found out that our stay was upgraded from the Plantation Bure to the Beach Front Bure (room 407). We were driven by buggy down to our room, which the kids just loved. The presentation of our room was more than we expected. Our room was quickly set up and beds turned down.

We had read a lot of reviews on here that the food was average and quite expensive. I can tell you that the prices were very reasonable and the food was excellent. The menu’s all had Fijian prices as well as Australian prices. We ate at 3 of the restaurants and found them to all be of excellent quality. The waiters were more than happy to make your dining experience a memorable one. Nothing is too much for them and their work is carried out with a smile. We did find that 3 meals were far too much so we generally did a late breakfast and earlier dinner. Cocktails were brilliant. There was always enough staff around the pool to take orders of food or drinks.

The pool and activities were enough to keep our kids (7 & 5 year olds) happy and in tears at the end of the trip as they didn’t want to go home. We only had the kids in Kids Club for 2 hours as we found there was too much to do with them and wanted to share the holiday experience with them. Our kids don’t know how to swim properly but they still managed to go snorkeling with us as they had a lift vest on and were able to float with us whilst holding our hand. The kayaking was fun and services at the activities counter was great.

We did venture out one day and went on the Captain Cook day cruise to Tivua Island. The cost was only AUD$149 for the family and you received a huge lunch at the island, this also included the transfers from the hotel to Port Denarau where the cruises took off from. A special thanks goes to Toohey (spelling?) who was wonderful with looking after kids whilst my husband and I went on a snorkel by ourselves. The kids enjoyed the glass bottom boat and they felt they didn’t miss out on the unbelievable tropical fish below. The day was magical and the snorkeling was phenomenal. The bus trip was quite interesting as we went to a few other hotels at Denarau to pick up others who were going on day trips. We were grateful that we didn’t stay at one of these hotels as they were so commercial like that it would have felt like we were staying at a holiday resort back in Australia. Nothing made them feel like you were in Fiji. Whilst they looked nice and clean they just didn’t have the feel of being in another country. The Outrigger has done exceptional in that it has kept the Fijian features and the staff are all Fijian.

A special thanks goes out to Zak who was our Talai butler. Zak was only too happy to bring us our canapés and champagne each day and then our night caps each night. The kids just adored Zak and got a great big hug from him on our last night there. His knowledge of the area and the hotel facilities helped us with planning our days and what trips were family fun.

The Kula Wildlife Park (which is across the road) was worth visiting. I recommend you get the hotel buggy to take you there as it’s complimentary and the taxi is just not worth hopping into. The kids got hands on experience with the lizards and even a snake.

We happen to stay at the Outrigger during Australia Day and were pleasantly surprised with the great Australia Day events organized by the hotel. We had a beach BBQ at lunch, Triathlon events for males and females, a trophy celebration by the beach with great day trips and spa treatment prizes for the winners. There was breach cricket and hotel staff even dressed as Bondi lifesavers. What a great fun filled day!

We checked the weather frequently before we departed and found the reports saying it was showers everyday. There was nothing to actually worry about as it only rained for approximately 5-10 min once a day before the sun was out again. Everyone continued continued swimming during the rain it was like nothing happened.

The hotel provides an activities sheet stating what was planned for each day that week. The torch lighting ceremony that takes place each day was nice to watch. They included kids staying at the resort to help in lighting the torches and blowing the “shell” horn.

The resort also has some great shops. I was surprised at how well priced they were and they can also do duty free. We made sure we tried to support as much of the local community as we could. The locals that came from the nearby village to sell their handy craft work ie, jewellery or and wood carvings were great. Such nice memories to take home with you. I miss all their “BULA’s”

On our last night we had dinner at the restaurant. The staff came over and sang “Isa Lei” to us (now our favorite song). They are all so gifted with beautiful voices.

Overall our experience at the Outrigger has left us with the best holiday memories. We have promised to be back and we look forward to going back there later this year. I wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else and can thoroughly recommend the Outrigger to anyone.

I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
