“Fantastic Holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2012

This is our fourth trip to hideaway and we stayed in the Beach Front villa. The service was as good as ever (Fiji time), the food was great and our 7 year old daughter loved it. Lots to do for the kids if they get off the water slide. Warning to adults that want to try it the last turn can hurt.
We just got back stayed 21st April until the 1st May. They are doing a lot of work to keep the resort looking good. If you are a returning visitor note that the ATM is now gone so take some money for the local shopping at the stalls within the resort or for the massage hut outside of the resort. Highly recommend the all inclusive package it is the best way to go if you do not the lunch and dinner and drinks will cost you more when you are there than the cost of paying before you go. The beach is raked every morning and the water is so clean. You must go and have fun.

Room Tip: If you have older kids going with you the Frangapani bure will be the best as you won't be in th...

My wife and I stayed at Hideaway Resort in March this year, we had a great time and it met every expectation. The Bure we stayed in was the Frangipani Bure which offered loads of space and it had its own “outdoor” shower (as well as indoor shower), the beds were very comfortable and it offered all the amenities one would expect. The food served in the restaurant was well presented and offered a wide selection. For breakfast be sure to have an omelette cooked by Fayez, truly amazing and this person is a character in himself entertaining everyone, a wonderful start to the day. You can snorkel, kayak directly from the resort, which is a bonus, and there is also an onsite Dive Company. The waterslide located at the pool seemed to be a hit with some of the families staying. All in all a great holiday experience! The only disappointment was the reception staff member Silla that was very rude. We had booked the all inclusive package and the inclusions were not explained to us upon arrival by her, so on check out (by the same staff member....) we had some issues with certain items that were charged to us. When I asked to see the Manager, she responded to me abruptly that he is not here at the moment and wouldn’t be able to assist me anyway. So not the greatest way to end a fabulous holiday experience. Luckily this was the only negative part, everything else was sensational so would definitely return and recommend to others, just would hope that someone else looks after me at reception.

We travelled to Fiji from Canada as a dream destination. We arrived on March 29th, 2012 and stayed 8 days. We grabbed a taxi right from the airport which is a cheaper option to get there ($100 FJD each way). Although we didn't, I highly recommend buying your beer and liquor at the Duty Free before leaving, its much cheaper there. Fiji Bitter was our favourite.

The rain started the day we arrived, but got breaks throughout the first day. Flying fromLos Angeles USA, we arrived at the resort at 7am, to find our feet completely swollen from the long flight, next time we will wear compression socks to avoid the temporary 'kankle's'. Pack a bathing suit in your carry on or somewhere accessible in your suitcase, as it will take a few hours for your room to be ready, we were able to enjoy breakfast (included) and the pool while we waited.

Despite the flood, which happened the 2nd day we were there, I felt that the staff did a great job keeping their spirits and serving the guests, when some of them had lost their homes. The staff was also very good at keeping us updated in regards to the possible Cyclone which was looming in the area. They took precautionary measures with removing loose furniture and boarding up some windows to keep us all safe. We had 4 days of rain and 4 days of mostly sun, we made the best of the situation. Unfortunately, and no fault of the resort, most to all of the tours were closed due to the weather, a bit of a let down, but all the more reason to go BACK! The staff are all very friendly. The band that plays in the front lobby is just awesome, I wish they had a CD, I'd listen to it every day.

Rooms were nice, clean and functional, not a 5* but relaxed, comfortable and enjoyable. I liked that there was no "hotel" feel to the rooms. The fridge, kettle and safe provided were much used. Coffee in the room every morning was perfect, and they even provide milk in the fridge. We stayed in Bure #42 which was right in front beach and ocean view with a hammock and sun hut still being built out front. Perfect location.

Beach was great! Copious amounts of coral to pick off the beach, or watch the hermit crabs, and even got to see thousands of tadpoles on the beach near the end of the resort. We walked the beach to the west of the resort to the end of the cove with the lava rock. This is a great area to snorkel as its very clear and lots of fish, but strong currents at certain times of day. We saw a clown fish (Nemo) with its Mother, along with many different fish. We were unable to do any outer reef snorkelling as the rain run-off had made the water somewhat cloudy with sediment and Diveaway wasn't running the tour for a few more days. Disappointing but understanding. We spent a lot of time watching the surfers out on the breakwaters.

The Pool was good, and the slide was exhilarating! We played water volleyball with the entertainment staff. The pool side music could be updated, and diversified, it was sometimes dated and all Australian (Roxette, Keith Urban etc).

We bought a lali drum from the wood carver in the craft area of the resort, we found he had the best price for one of these drums, and he even customized it for us. If you see something you like at the beginning of the trip but want it smaller or changed, he can do it for you with enough time. Support local artists!

Food: We had breakfast included, and the food did not disappoint. We ate 3 of our dinners at Vilisitie's, located in Korolevu approx. 10km east of the resort. My husband is a Chef and he loved the simplicity and taste of the food. The first meal we each had a starter and small fish&chips with drinks for $10 USD!! I also had the Sweet & Sour Fish = Awesome, and the traditional Fish in Lolo (coconut cream).... its a whole red snapper. We loved Vilisitie's, great view and food, two of the three times, we were the only people in there. We also ate at the new bar/restaurant just up the back from the resort, it was also good food.
I had the Kokoda for dinner at the resort, it is a MUST try and we fell in love with this Fijian spin on Ceviche. I also attended an afternoon class on how to make Kokoda and recipe provided to take home. The pizza is also quite good, no complaints whatsoever about the food at Hideaway, although maybe a little higher priced than the local restaurants.

Our biggest complaint was the exorbitant prices of the local Taxi service 'Deb's Tours' that the hotel uses. Get the price before hand and only use it if you have to, there are cheaper ways to get around the area. We used share rides which are Caravan type Van's that will take you along the Queens Road for $1-2 each, if they have room to pick you up. The other taxi's that happen to be driving along, negotiate, if they are heading home they may just pick you up for the cost of the bus. We never used the bus but heard it was cheap and easy to use. We also decided to walk to the Baravi handicraft store (5km west of resort) and had 3 different people stop and ask us if we were ok or wanted a ride. There is no lack of courtesy from the Fijian people, but there is a lack of bicycles, which we wished the resort had to rent. We love renting bikes when we travel, and were disappointed that Hideaway didn't have any bikes.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Fiji, despite the weather anomaly, and are more determined to return to see the things we missed out on, such as the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. Next time we will do less All Inclusive type and more island hopping, back packing now that we know more about the country and culture.

If you have any hesitations about Hideaway, DON'T, its a family friendly, serviceable resort with great food, entertainment, and facilities including Laundry, pool table, ping pong table, movie area, wine cellar, etc. Go! If you are laid back, happy go lucky, not high maintenance this resort will be plenty for you.

Room Tip: Room #42 for a two person stay, right on the water!

Great place to relax , not much outside the resort. You can catch a bus into Sigatoka, a village which is well programed to take your tourist $.
Clean and tidy with reasonably good food. Drinks are expensive, stock up at the supermarket at Sigatoka for 1/4 price. ( your room has a fridge).
They advertise a surf break out the front, it may actualy break once or twice a year.
Overall good staff and a great place to unwind and do nothing.

My husband booked this trip as a surprise for our 10th wedding anniversary. I literally got on a plane without knowing where I was going! So I was very surprised at how well he planned and organized this trip. We loved our stay at Hideaway. We stayed in a private buree with an outdoor shower (which was amazing). The buree was oceanfront and very spacious. Upon arrival we were greated with fresh floral arrangements throughout our room. The food was delicious and breakfast was amazing. Fayaz, the omelette chef was really great! He always was very kind to our young daughter, making her special eggs every morning. The entertainment was really nice. The beach was amazing (very corally, as it is coral coast) but the snorkeling was awesome!! We saw an octupus and all kinds of fish. One of the nights we went to Visconti's which is a very popular restaurant in the area...AMAZING food!!! A must try. We had a dish called "cocongo" to die for. Overall a very enjoyable vacation. Fijian people are amazing :). 1 downfall was the location was pretty remote, we used the bus system almost everyday to go into town, Singatoka (25 mins away from resort). The bus system is very safe.

Room Tip: The buree's are great!

On arrival my sister and I were very welcomed and our two tired young toddlers were instantly swept up by the Fijian people, a delight whilst trying to check in. We had 45 nights there and there were wonderful. The babsitting service whilst only used a couple of times i had the same person and she was fabulous aas were all the fijians , the villagers across the road were very friendly and loved talking about their way of life.
Great holiday

We arrived back from the hideaway yesterday, but before we left it was pooring with rain, though it was still warm. Just my partner and I went, we found the staff very friendly and the bure's were huge in comparison to many other hotels we have stayed at. My only critisism is there is only one eating area and one bar, that does not have enough chairs for every-one or even at least a quarter of the people to sit on, this also goes for beside the pool where there are not enough banana lounges either.
If you want to try different venues to eat there is a little bar just up the road, walking distance from the hideaway. If you want live entertainment and a little more variety go down to the Lavite and have a meal down there for something different. If you want to buy soveniers go into Sigatoka, catch the local bus it will cost you about $2.50 FJD there and same again back.
The price of alcohol is a little expensive, but thats all crossed Fiji.
All in all it was a great holiday and thank you to the staff at Hideaway as they are all very lovely.

Room Tip: All bures are great it just depends on where you would prefer to be, beachside or just a little bit...
