“Mango Bliss”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2010

The only this visible from the main road of Viti Levu is the large sign saying Mango Bay Resort. After an anticipation building dirt road drive I find myself gazing upon a hidden retreat with jungle all around, it made me feel like I was in Jiji. Greeted by friendly staff and escorted to my room it becomes quite easy to make yourself feel at home.

After a couple exciting nights most of the occupants of the resort know each other as the many activities, party atmosphere and laid back lifestyle bring people together. I especially liked the crab race where I won $170fj which naturally went went back to the bar in exchange for a series of Jagerbombs for me and my company.

WARNING TO ALL TRAVELERS - Mango bay doesn't stock red bull! But the drink they have to substitute is not only amazingly better in taste, but has an amusing name... I wont ruin the surprise... go try it!

Although sometimes we would miss breakfast due to the late night drinking, there is always a list of delish foods on the menu to snack on. I recommend the fish and chips... i know that sounds stupid and the last thing you would want to eat on holiday, but the fish is caught fresh, usually that day, and taste so amazing that its pretty much all I ate whilst at Mango Bay. Big-up-ya-self to the staff at mango bay, serious about their work but they still laugh and know how to have fun. The Manager is
the biggest legend on the planet! I miss that lad already.

I planned to travel the islands more during my stay in Fiji but after 2 weeks i found myself still at mango bay enjoying every minute i had left to stay. I left with 650 photos on my new camera and memories that will last a lifetime.

BEST part- Accessibility to water activities, nearby surf breaks, always fresh fish which taste amazing, good night life for at least 5 nights a week... depending on the crowd.

WORST part- Having to leave the warm winter weather to go to New Zealand

This is a genuine hidden retreat. We stayed in the 'beachfront' bures, even though ours was a row behind the actual beachfront cabins. But it truly is an idyllic setting. Aside from the first night, whereby a few revellers decided to stay up partying, the others nights were a peaceful and relaxing stay. The sounds of the waves, birds and swaying trees soothing for a good nights sleep, although the bures do tend to creak a bit. The outdoor showers are a great touch. In terms of facilities, there is free snorkeling and kayaking to keep you busy, as well as a pool and daily activities arranged by the staff. We stayed 5 nights which to be honest was a little too long, as cabin fever was beginning to set in. And since there isn't anywhere else to go by foot, you are relatively tied to the resort, so a shorter stay might be advised. Food is varied and tasty, although the 'free' breakfast is just scraps of bread and tea/coffee, otherwise you have to pay extra for a hot feed. Recommended for a relaxing stay. The hammocks are a great touch.

I booked my stay with Mango Bay in January this year after looking at reviews and pictures from other visitors.

The resort is very small and friendly. They have ample amounts of staff to customers, and they strive to make your stay as special as possible.

I stayed in an 8 bed dorm, which might i add, was cleaned daily, and beds were made as well as little extras like screens between beds and netting for mosquitos!

Friends of mine stayed in a beach front bure, which is their top accommodation, and it seriously is beautiful! They make all the little extra efforts, such as fresh towels on arrival, petals on the bed, animal shapes etc....it really is lovely....oh and the outdoor shower which is undercover and private is a great extra! :)

Very nice and small beach at the resort which is great! The pool is small, but deep and you are able to swim....its cleaned daily!

The food is fantastic and cheap. There are no shops or towns nearby so you need to eat and drink there, but considering this, they do not take the mick with the prices! Infact they are better prices and standards than some places in the UK!

Overall, i would recommend this accommodation to lone travellers, couples, honeymooners and possibly families. I would suggest that you bring a book or something to occupy you if you are staying for a long period, but other than that, you will have an amaaaaazing time!

Just for the record i would in travel & tourism. I have stayed all over the world, so i feel this is a pretty standard fair review!!

I stayed at mango bay for 3 nights and enjoyed my stay there - there is always something to do if you get bored of sunbathing.
The dorm i stayed in was nice and had mosquite nets over the beds which was a plus.
Food was cheap and nice, staff were friendly and the location was good.
The only downside was the shared dorm bathrooms which looked like they had never been cleaned in weeks... truly disgusting.

I spent 10 days at the Mango Bay resort at the end of April and beginning of May 2010. It was the most incredible week of my life. I met friends there that I will keep for life.

The staff are among the most friendly people I have ever met. They took us in, and we were a part of their family. They got involved in EVERY activity, from egg tossing, to beach and pool volleyball. The staff made my stay for me. The facilities aren't the best but they're by far and a way good enough, the internet is quick, snorkelling gear is free to borrow and so is kayaking equipment. We kayaked out and saw some reef sharks. One of the barman, off his own back, one Saturday morning took us to watch his local team play rugby. Plus visits to the school providing a unique insight into the lives of the school children.

It is perhaps not a resort for the older generation, but definitely recommend to travellers and backpackers.

The weather was incredible, the people were incredible, what and experience. 1 week of my life I will struggle to forget. AMAZING.
