We were shocked when we arrived. The area where the hotel was, was not in a nice area and was fenced in with tall fences thank goodness. We were staying in an over the water bungalow which I think we paid $650 for. After coming from the Four Seasons in Bora Bora is was a sad, dilapidated, icky imitation of that. The 1st thing we did upon arriving was go to eat something and have a cocktail at the hotel. We wouldn't have dreamed of leaving the property. Couldn't get a martini. They kept bringing all sorts of strange things calling it a martini. The food was awful. The wine was awful. So the 2nd thing we did was try to figure out if there could be a better place to stay. It seemed that this place was shockingly the best option. Wow! We tried hanging out at the pool and beach which was a sad little rocky beach. However, there were so many people smoking everywhere, it was really unappealing. So we stayed for the night and got up at 4am for our flight out. Favorite part of our stay was getting in the cab and driving away. I have to say at least one nice thing. The people were nice. If we ever go back to Bora Bora, I will make sure our flights work out that we don't have to stay a night in Tahiti. Stray dogs everywhere. So sad.

Room Tip: My tip to help travelers choose a good room is to choose another hotel.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel twice, pre cruise and post cruise. We stayed in 2 different rooms. Both times the shower had apparent mold in the grout. In both rooms one of the sinks needed repair on the hot water handle and the other on the sink stopper. The room and the exterior need to be repainted. Free wifi in the lobby is of varying speed (slow and very slow) depending on how many users there are. Needs upgrading. Food and drink are quite expensive as everywhere in Polynesia. BEWARE: at the Astrolabe Bar, our party ordered a round of drinks. The Bill ( in Central Polynesian Francs) seemed quite large. Upon examining it more closely, we were charged for 2 drinks each, doubling the bill. The drinks are expensive enough without being charged double. Bottom line: check your bill carefully ( intentional or unintentional ??)

Staying here both inbound and outbound from Bora Bora I was impressed with the Le Meridien Tahiti. The hotel itself is very clean and well presented, and the rooms are a generous size and quiet (set back a good distance from the road and next to the beach). Air conditioning and all amenities worked exactly as you would want and it has nice views. The pool is amazing, sand bottom, very clean and warm - a great way to spend a day. Also the pool bar was very handy and service was excellent. I also noticed a number of families (especially on the way home) and the staff and facilities seemed to handle young children very well.
This hotel is a bit of a distance from downtown and the airport, but that is actually quite good, as downtown Papeete is not that impressive, and the security and quietness of the hotel are key benefits. Also with a small strip mall an easy walk away you have access to restaurants, pharmacy and a supermarket to pick up supplies if you want. Very handy if you happen to be there on a Sunday when the restaurants (and most things) are closed.
While French Polynesia is never exactly cheap I thought the rates at the Le Meridien were reasonable and I was really impressed with the service all round - front desk and pool bar were exceptional.
If transiting through Tahiti I would definitely stay here again

Located directly on a lovely beach, this hotel offers modern accommodation with Polynesia flare. The facility was well maintained. Our lagoon view room was clean and well appointed, but beginning to show its age in the shower area. Closer to the airport than Papeete, there are a few shopping and restaurant options near the hotel. The buffet breakfast was varied and good; however, prices were comparable to any 4 star hotel. There is a hotel shuttle into Papeete and the Museum of Tahiti is within walking distance.

We stayed at this property for 3 nights in total during our stay in Tahiti, two nights on the inbound and one on the outbound. Our initial stay we had a basic room which was ultra modern and looked to have been updated recently. On the outbound they upgraded us to one of their over water bungalows. Having just spent the last 3 nights in an over water bungalow at the Le Meridien Bora Bora we were not as impressed and thought it was not worth the extra cost if we had to pay, but we did enjoy the room never the less.

The hotel breakfast was ok, as a SPG Platinum they don't give you the standard hot breakfast other properties do. Breakfast on the weekend was a nightmare as there must have been a discount for locals because the place was packed and they were packing their bags with everything from the yogurt to fruit.

There are not very many eating options if you want to eat outside of the hotel.

If there was another Starwood option I would try it out before returning to this property.

We had the pleasure of staying at Le Meridien Tahiti at the end of our amazing French Polynesia cruise. Given that we had just come off an outstanding cruise with Oceania Cruises we thought that a hotel would not live up to our high expectations.

Well, it was amazing - we were able to stay in the over the water bungalows and it was a dream come dream. Beautiful sunsets and everything that we had hoped for in a 5 star hotel.

The staff were excellent and the restaurant at the beach was very special.

It was a perfect 3 day stay. Be sure to add it to your bucket list.

We spent the first three nights of our honeymoon here and the rest at the Four Seasons Bora Bora. So we came here expecting a lot and were disappointed with a few things. Our coffee machine broke twice and when we called housekeeping to replace it they didnt speak any English. We then talked to the front desk and it got fixed only an hour later. We ended up just going out to buy coffee from the nearby cafe since it took so long. The fridge also does not very cold, which was annoying since we bought some of our meals from the supermarket. The rooms were fine, it was good to spend our first couple days there- we did a lot of sleeping and were jet-lagged and didn't really feel like we were missing out on much by sleeping. The outdoor pool set-up was nice, we were always able to get a chair without a problem.
Free wi-fi in the lobby was great, we ate at the restaurant for dinner one night, which was good too. Also a plus to have the grocery store so close. We got a handful of our meals from there as well.
It was fine, I would have been disappointed if I spent my whole honeymoon here. Dont come here and expect crystal clear turquoise water, because you wont find that.

Room Tip: we had one overlooking the koi pond which we liked
