“Good choice for us”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

We spent 2 nights here in April on our way to a cruise and we were happy with our choice. The hotel is nothing fancy so if you are looking for fancy check the Intercontinental or other resorts. We had a water view room which had a wrap around balcony and a view of the port and Moorea. This hotel is located on a busy street and there is traffic noise if you are outside on the patio but when you close the door you can’t hear anything. There is no patio furniture but we took the chairs from inside and that worked fine. I loved watching the port activity from our room. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. It had a coffee/ tea maker and that’s about it. A bowl left on the table is for ice. You need to go to the front desk to get ice. The front desk personnel are very friendly as are all of the local people we encountered.
One block down the street is a restaurant/bar (I don’t remember the name) that had good food and live music and outside dining which we went to twice. You are close to the market place and the ferry terminal (we took the ferry to Moorea for the day).
All in all, if you are just passing through Papeete or waiting to board a cruise ship (walk to the cruise port) this is a good choice for a hotel.
If and when I go back to Tahiti I will stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a corner room on the 4th floor and we loved the brightness and large balcony.

Staff was extremely friendly.
Rooms are sparsely furnished but clean. The best reason to stay at the Tiare Tahiti Hotel is the location. Walking distance to the cruise ship Pier and open air Market. Several nice (but expensive) Restaurant in the vicinity. Papeete's 19th century Catholic Cathedral is nearby and worth a visit.

A nice clean hotel, simple but near every thing. Close to the cruise ships we walked across the road to terminal. Near to food trucks that set up at 6pm each evening by the tourist information centre.

Room Tip: We walked to the market for breakfast cheaper if you like something different

We stayed one night at the Tiare in March of 2014 with our 22 month old. This was our last night in the country and it was a nice change of pace. Most people default to the Intercontinental but after a long stay at resorts on other islands we were ready to see what Papeete was all about.

It was odd checking in and not having to provide ID or a credit card (booked on booking.com) but whatever. We had a room with two beds and they acknowledged my online request for a crib. The room was basic but spacious with a big balcony looking across to the post office and the harbor out to the right. We were staying less than 24 hours so the biggest priority was sleep and air conditioning.

The road along the harbor was really not that loud. We didn't have any problems sleeping due to noise and the walls of the hotel are concrete and the room was quiet. In the room were English city guides and tourism maps, a nice touch that helped walking around the city. The air conditioner was underpowered with our larger room (2 double beds) but it eventually cooled down.

The town is very dense but easily walkable. There are banks, restaurants, the market, roulettes and parks for little ones in easy walking distance.

The front desk staff arranged a nice taxi for us to the airport at a good price and check out was a breeze.

Room Tip: This hotel has a wide variety of room configurations and beds. There is an elevator but you need to...

Our flight arrived at 10:30 pm, so we needed a place just to sleep before taking the ferry to Moorea the next morning.

The hallways were old and the mattresses were not new, but everything was clean and satisfactory. The balcony overlooked the harbor and we enjoyed watching the activity in the morning. The breakfast was superb and reasonably priced.

We had a small issue. I had reserved a standard room and upon arrival we were given the keys to a room that turned out to have the view. In our jet-lagged status, we just enjoyed it. When it came time to check out, we were charged for the view room and the lady who looked at my reservation form that said standard room was not available. It wasn't that much money so we just paid it. It definitely did not feel like a scam, just a miscommunication, but if you are counting on the lower price of the standard room, be sure that is clear.

We were looking forward to walking along the water to the ferry, but it was pouring rain. The hotel called a taxi, which came promptly and dropped us off undercover at the terminal.

The Tiare is a fine place to stay overnight - but not on your honeymoon!

While a typical 3 star European hotel, it is closest to the ferry and ship terminals and you can easily pull your luggage to and from the hotel and the ships. There are better resort options for longer stays on Tahiti or Moorea, or even just for the day before a late flight. But if you need to spend a night and take a ferry or ship the next day, the Tiare is a good value and easy to transfer.
The hotel is clean. The AC works, although the remote is a little tricky. Like some European hotels they will give you a metal card to activate the electricity when you enter the room. The street level below is a little creepy, but so is all of Papette. You are going to spend a lot of money during your trip or cruise to Polynesia, so this is a good way to save a few bucks for just an overnight. My wife is very picky, and she was OK with this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms in the front are pretty cool to look out for your first views of Tahiti. The breakfast is...

The Tiare Tahiti Hotel has an ideal location facing the harbour. It has two ATM's outside and it is next door to the post office. It is 5 minutes walk to board the cruise ship and to Les Fourettes (which is a great place for dinner) and ten minutes walk to the ferry to Mooea and to the pearl museum. The Assembly House is behind the post office and this is well worth a visit and it is free.

The rooms are basic but adequate and It is worth paying extra for one with an ocean view. We sat on our balcony and watched our cruise ship come in.

The staff was very friendly. They stored out bags and told us where to go to buy table cloths and swimming costumes.

The taxi from the airport for two people and two bags cost 2,100 PF.

We would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an Ocean view.
