We had not realized the extent of the war in Bosnia and sadly did not even know Sarajevo had been under siege for over 3 years. The part of the tunnel that has been maintained, and the accompanying museum, was a highlight for making us partly understand what the people of Sarajevo went through. It is an experience to stand there and see the airport right there - easy to imagine the tunnel running under the runway. Be sure to see the video first. We did not find it too well marked, but when you go through the entrance, the tunnel is to your right and the building with the video is to the left.

The War Tunnel is a must for anyone staying in Sarajevo. The war is such a recent experience and was so damaging that it is important to see the tunnel--it is a testament to Sarajevo's determination to survive. We found it a very moving experience. Don't miss the movie.

This is a must at any visit to Sarajevo. Located at the edge of town, on the far side of the airport, this museum tells about the Sarajevo siege in 1992-1995, and how the inhabitants dug an 800m tunnel below the airport in order to avoid Serbian snipers when bringing in supplies to the besieged city.

Understand I was traveling solo, but all why reservations would disappear if visiting the Tunnel was part of a tour.
First, it is out-of-the-way. Which makes it expensive if you use a taxi. I used the tram and local bus services, which got me into 200 m (the drive pointed which way I should walk). Signage was absent from the bus stop. Buses are not frequent.
Second, the entry fee was expensive 10 Bosian marka.
Third, while very interesting, the entire visit can easily be completed in 10-15 minutes. Of course if you have a guided tour, it will take longer. I didn't, but I listened to some of the what the guides were telling. Everything they said was written on the exhibits, plus you got plenty of "don't forget."
Fourth, the walk through the surviving part of the tunnel will give you a good experience of what it might have been like for the heroes who saved Sarajevo.
Fifth, walking about the village, there is even more examples of war damage than you see elsewhere in Sarajevo.
Yes, I would recommend visiting the Tunnel, especially if you can do it with a tour group.

Its not long ago that Bosnia was at war, and your visit will in many ways center around this event. This unique place tells you the horrible conditions people had to suffer during the war. You will probably have a guide which was a child during the war and can add to the experience of the visit.
