This is a Turkish mosque. It is not a large mosque, but it is worth a visit. You must remove your shoes to enter the mosque and women must cover their heads. This is a custom for all mosques and a sign of appropriate reverence. The inside of the mosque is simple with beautiful tilework. The guard at the gate was very nice and loved his mosque. There is a small entrance fee.

Did not feel any energy inside. Nothing remarkable about the architecture or décor either. Has a lot of history, that is all.

The mosque was under renovation when we visited, but one could still enter (free of ticket) and admire the beautiful ceramic tiles that covered and decorated the walls. Ecaxtly across the street there's the central Market of Sofia.

This is the only remaining active mosque of the more than 50 that once thrived in Sofia, under the Ottomans. The front was under renovation and scaffolding when we visited in early Oct. The interior has been extensively renovated, so it is very attractive but probably bears little resemblance to the original 1576 structure. Don't miss the mineral water taps behind the mosque, where people fill their bottles for free water. It tastes pretty good, too.

We are Turkish so of course we wanted to see one of the early works of great Ottoman architect Sinan. The inside was too much restored so it was quite disappointing for us but worth to visit to see a 500 years old building, and visit the mineral waters.
