We were on a two day trip from Nessebar and the heavens opened!
We were dressed for the hot sunny day that it had been until we got out of the Cathedral and were half way round our guided tour of the city, we couldn't have been wetter than if we had just climbed out of the pool at the hotel... drowned rats had nothing on us so we made our way back to the coach which was parked by the Cathedral but the driver was no where to be seen then we spotted the Mamma Mia.
The staff were brilliant, we asked if there were plastic chairs we could sit on because we didn't want to leave huge wet bum prints for other customers to sit on (yes we were that wet) they brought suitable chairs and happily served us with delicious coffee and brandy, we ordered a pizza and followed that with yet more coffee with not a word or look of disapproval or distain.

To be upfront, we did not eat anything at Mamma Mia, although the salads and pasta dishes served to other customers looked appetizing enough.

We had just finished a three hour walk through downtown Sofia on a hot day, and we were exhausted and dehydrated. Our friend recommended stopping at Mamma Mia. The restaurant is centrally located, very close to the Alexander Nevsky cathedral and the downtown area. We seated ourselves on the outdoor patio which offered some welcome shade.

We only ordered drinks, hence no comment on the quality of food. Service seemed friendly and unobtrusive.

Reading the menu everything seems to be ok. In fact, it's not. Simply because the chief seems to ignore the existence of different spices and herbs. The raw cooking material is looking great, but the taste is near to the zero. It could be a problem of the chief himself, but it's also a problem for the management. Otherwise, the place (I mean the restaurant-pizzeria located Tsar Chichman Street in Sofia, part of the chain of restaurants Mamma Mia), is average but overvisited mainly by young people who espect to stay in a very well-known restaurant for no money. In fact they should be a little be disapointed because the prices are not so low, especially the drinks. On my opinion, if you really want to eat a pizza or pasta, better chhose another place - there it will be for sure less expensive and the food may be more tasty.

We ate here on three occasions and the food was lovely. Service was good and easy going, we had waitresses that could speak quite good English and were able to suggest several local dishes. Toilets are very close by and they were reasonably clean. The menu was a mix of traditional and Italian. I tried a pork, salmon and pasta dish over the three nights and each dish was very tasty and satisfying. The best part of this restaurant is the relaxing outdoor eating area that gives you a beautiful view of the stunning cathedral. Overall a very pleasant experience.
