“Very classy hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2012

Stayed once there. Great hotel, great service and as NO.1 I would highlight the restaurant and superb food. Hotel is not realy exact in the centre, but you can take cab which is btw really not expensive and enjoy in this interesting city. About hotel few words, at the night businessmans from Bulgaria gathered on some meeting or so, the wedding celebration was going on hotel lobby was all the time full between 17-23 I think. The night bar is really good, beer Kamenica and if you want girls for one night it wont be a problem to find them asking someone on reception.

Room Tip: Rooms looking on the parking are better and the view from the hall is magnificent.

This is a very nice hotel located in the upscale area of Lozenets. Two thirds of the rooms have been recently renovated and are modern but the remaining 1/3rd has preserved the original 70s decor (nonetheless these rooms are well maintained and clean too). If your room happens to be in the 4th floor or higher then you will enjoy a very nice view of the city. The staff was fairly friendly which is not always the case in Bulgaria. What's unique about this place is its Japanese-style garden, allegedly the only of its kind in the Balkans. It's worth a visit. I would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: The higher the better!

Stayed at the Kempinski for a one-night business trip to Sofia. Central (ish) location to the city. The hotel staff were all friendly and the ground floor bar / restaurant / lobby area had a buzzing atmosphere. Enjoyed the dinner in the Captain Cook restaurant (seafood). The room was disappointing - very tired decor, big old TV & clock/radio, no tea/coffee, VERY soft bed & dilapidated bath/shower. Also, a bit odd to only have wireless access on the ground floor and not in the bedrooms.
Generally, it felt like the hotel was overdue a renovation.
But for the price I paid (Eur75) for the room I thought it wasn't bad value and I would probably stay at the hotel again when I'm back in Sofia.

When you pull up to the hotel, you can tell that it is very exclusive... Bentleys, Jags, Rolls etc are lined up along the drive. Very grand entrance, with magnums of champagnes and superior cigars on display. Go over to the check-in and the enchantment stops. Lines of people with only two hosts checking-in. So after waiting 20+ mins I'm finally checked-in and am handed a huge key for my room. A key? Hotels still do that??? I'm only staying one night so to be economical, I chose to stay in the standard non-renovated rooms. My mistake! It's like walking back into time and definitely not 5 star quality! Dark blues, dark heavy wood. An ancient radio, like from the 1940s, wired internet, old tv. I touched as little as possbile and was really uncomfortable lying in bed. Those bedspreads had to be years old! The bathroom was ok but I wore shower shoes in the tub. Between the bed and the noises coming from the room above (like things were being dragged around the room) I barely slept and was happy when it was time to check-out. Check-out was much better, maybe because it was nearly 6 in the morning... I don't think I'll return to this hotel until ALL rooms are renovated.

Room Tip: Reserve a renovated room, even if you're staying only one night.

Dear ulearnme,

Thank you very much for having stayed with us and for sharing your comments on some inconsistencies in your expectations regarding the condition of our rooms.

We very much regret you had an unpleasant experience and would like to let you know that two thirds of the rooms have already been completely renovated featuring key card system, modern multimedia with music and video on demand, personal safe, individually controlled air-conditioning. The renovation goes in stages and we hope soon to have all the rooms renovated to meet and exceed the expectations of our guests.

Thank you once again for all your comments because it is only through patrons like you that we can go the extra mile that differentiates a Kempinski from the competition.

We are acutely aware that you have a choice and we would like to keep you as our loyal guest.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to our hotel and to your providing feedback on our standards.

Beautiful hotel, nice rooms, good internet, hot water, nice view, good breakfast, nice gym, plenty of nice restaurants and shops but the service is despicable. After a long and confusing check in I made it to my room, changed and hustled down to the gym which conveniently closes at 9pm and doesn't open until 7am. Quite inconvenient if you are working long hours. The next day I made it down to the gym, the girl that is supposed to push the button to unlock the turnstile was too busy on her cell phone to bother with opening the turnstile so I had to go back and point at it and ask her to open it. Next the gym was beautiful, all new equipment, plenty of free weights, machines, and cardio equipment. But no water anywhere. You have to go and buy a bottle at the bar. The gym turned out to be part lounge were people hung out and drank espressos. They would just sit on the equipment and sip on cappuccinos and chit chat. At least they weren't chain smoking cigarettes that is so typical of the area.

The Breakfast was great, staff friendly, and lots of choices.

Any issues or need to talk to reception will require a minimum of 10 minutes. Question? 10 minutes (if someone doesn't cut in front of you). Real frustrating. If they would hire a few more receptionists this problem would most likely be resolved.

I will opt for another hotel for my next visit.

Good hotel and location, nice and beautiful view from the room and also beautiful garden. The service during check in was not good, also same as check out. We have informed to the receptionist to have breakfast box for all the peoples on group as we need to check out at 5 am to catch morning flight. She said all arranged and confirmed. On the morning I was the first to the lobby for checking out and confirm for our breakfast box, but no information he said even not written on the log book. Finally after other friend complained the gave us yellow plastic bag with 2 small cheese sandwiches and also 1 apple. In term of the hotel is good and no problem, only the service which need to be improved for better guests services.
