Anniversary dinner, gorgeous outside seating a lovely warm summer evening my beautiful wife what could go wrong?
We are both fans of Moroccan food, cafe mauresque in Canterbury is a firm favourite and this promised to be good.
The outside dining area is truly lovely. The food is Moroccan...just. We have lived in Bulgaria for a while and are used to things being toned down to suit what is perceived to be Bulgarian tastes but this goes too far. Harissa isn't just lutenitsa with a bit of chili thrown in. Bulgarians are being denied a true Moroccan flavour.
Considering that the dishes we ordered were long slow cooked, tagine and cous cous with chicken and vegetables, either they cooked them from scratch or the service is very very very slow. I doubt they cooked them then and there, the occasional microwave "ping" gave that game away!
To be honest we make better Moroccan food at home with ingredients bought in Sofia. All I need to do now is build an outside dining area like theirs.
Would I go back? Probably not. I did try to express my concerns at the time but there was no manager to speak to! Maybe that's some of the problem?
