We had a great time at the Esplanade. Breath taking view over the park. Kept ordering jugs of water for our numerous cuppa tea ... By the tenth jug they figured it might save them a bit of time by handing us a kettle so we could do it ourselves. Breakfast was a bit expensive but so worth it. The food display was very impressive. Highly recommend it. Staff was very polite and helpful. I would definitely go again!

After reading all reviews by others, We decided to stay in the Esplanade for 2 nights.

The room is over priced compare to the service we received. Upon our arrival no one at the door mean we taking care of our only bags and suitcases since we get up from the doorsteps. The reception didn't even talk and say hello, just get our passports. We made a remark about requesting a room on high floor and non smoking, we understand this cannot be guarantee but when we raised on our arrival, we have been allocated a room on 1st floor without giving us a choice and when I mentioned my request, the reception girl just told me it is a nice room, that's it....from what I paid, I don't expect such kind of services...quite disappointed and will not really recommend this unless you really have a short transit by train in Zagreb as the hotel is supreme regarding it's location. Otherwise, stay away and you can get some other well equipped apartments with the same price for whole family.

Also I reconfirmed the room is a non-smoking one, it was answered by the same girl impolitely telling "all our rooms are non smoking" in an impatient way, that is not professional and unacceptable for a 5-star hotel.

Another disappointment is about the so call gym room and Sauna facilities, as a top 5-stars rated hotel, we were told that the gym and sauna facilities are available for hotel guests, we paid a visit there and we finally didn't stay for exercise or sauna even we have dressed to prepared for it.... the gym room is located in the basement where just look like a store room and the equipment is quite limited. For the sauna, it's one of the smallest on earth that I have seen, we just turn our back and go back to our room after visiting the so call gym room and we couldn't believe what we have seen.

This is not first reviews to talk about the negative sides of this premier hotel, I do not mind to spend the penny if it really worth it but I won't recommend anyone stay here for this price as both the soft and hardware are yet to be enhanced.

Room Tip: high floor

We stayed at this hotel in April 2014. The hotel is conveniently located in the downtown area, which made it easy for us to explore the city. Our room had ample space and the bed was quite comfortable. The breakfast buffet offered a nice variety of food. We found the staff to be courteous and the service at the hotel was exemplary. During our stay we thought we had lost a small piece of luggage (it was only out of view behind a window drape in our room). The hotel manager and members of the staff all were extremely helpful and went out of their way to help us locate the luggage. Our experience at the Esplanade was very positive and we would certainly stay there again.

The Esplanade is a very elegant hotel, fantastically situated right in the town center. The space and grandeur of the public areas, especially the ball room give a real feel of luxury..Our room itself was somewhat smaller of course but still generous with a couple of arm chairs, big beds and a decent size bathroom. The whole interior of the building is done to a very high standard, and I particularly loved the old pictures of the Orient Express which used to pass by here.

I've loved the breakfast, with free bubbly, perfect ! We also used to smaller restaurant which had a limited menu and was a bit understaffed but it was late at night and served our purposes.

For the prices this hotel is great. The building is 5 star quality, the facilities 4 star and the service 4+ star so all in all really great value for money. We also didn't experience any snobbishness from star, in fact the very elegant front desk staff went out of their way to help my son and I on several occasions so no complaints there.

We were very excited to stay at this hotel for the last few days of our honeymoon. Right away we were put off by the staff, they were unfriendly and a little bit cold. During the duration of our stay they were the same, uninterested, unwelcoming and unfriendly. Several times upon returning to the hotel the doorman would be texting. I am very capable of opening my own door so this is not a problem, but the fact that he was standing their texting multiple times was unprofessional. At one point he was even blocking our way to the elevator and we had to walk around the lobby to get there!

The hotel has an old world, grand feeling to it which was stunning. The rooms need an update. The bubble TV was out of place and would turn off by itself, the shower had not been cleaned, the floor had white mineral deposits all around the edges.
