I ma not very demanding traveler, but few times I met the same experience.
Rooms I stayed in were old and not renovated. Beds were quite uncomfortable, with old mattresses. If you arrive late by car, it is possible that your vehicle will stay on the street, instead on hotel's parking. WiFi is veeery bad, and selection of cable channels is poor.
Price arose in the past 2 years, but quality was not improved.
Now, better sides: hotel is just 15 mins walk from central square. Staff is good and polite. Food is excellent.
If you go, ask for new rooms. .

Room Tip: Rooms are quiter on the Inner side of the hotel

We bought the hotel booking as part of a short notice away break, without doing more than finding out where it was. We were not expecting anything special, but were very pleased with what we found.

The hotel is off centre, though close to tram routes, large and well equipped. We arrived late on a Saturday night and did not expect much of a meal, but were suprised to be offered a really good menu selection and, actually, a very good meal, complete with wine and coffee for a remarkably cheap price.

The reception area was very nicely presented; the staff were helpful (they sold us Zagreb cards and offered a safe deposit facility). The room was large, air conditioned and well sound proofed and had all the facilities we could need.

Altogether a surprisingly pleasant choice.

This hotel is unfortunately located in very untidy industrial area. The "view" from our room was a scrap metal yard. Just draw the blinds and enjoy the hotel facilities which are quite good. The staff were helpful and the entry foyer and reception seems quite luxurious. Large nicely decorated dining area. Food was ok remebering because we were part of a coach tour group all meals were buffet style but good enough. On our second night we wanted to eat somewhere else. Staff said there was nothing close, but other friends on our tour could see a restaurant from their room window just across the road. What a find. I wish I coukld remember the name but there is a coffee bar next to it and about 50metres from the hotel Why the hotel didnt tell us about it I have no idea. We had so much fun there. The english speaking local waiter told us the menu was in Croatian only. We said you just select our food and we will hope for the best. well he returned a short time later with the most succulent, beef and lamb, flame grilled kebabs, sausages, meatballs, burgers, a beautiful sald with rich red tasty tomataoes, etc. Just wonderful. The resaurant was filling up as the night progressed and because our group was having so much fun the waiter was really getting warmed up and came out with complimentary " Sweet Cherry" and "blueberry schnappes, a glass of each for all of us. It was devine. We left when it was dangerous to stay much longer!! - with the waiter wanting us to come back soon. I wish we could.

We stayed here for a week and had a room in the 5th floor - ASK FOR ROOM ON 3RD FLOOR!!!! Our Airconditioning was set at 27 degees and they could not lower it. But the air con in 3rd floor older and so much cooler! Breakfast BASIC... ok if you liked steamd veg!!! Had breads, hams and cheese so it was adequate. The area lookas a bit run down with graffitti and there are not many shops in this area - there is a Lidl about 15 mins rom hotel. Tram is about 8 mins walk away. There is a GREAT pizza restaurant right across the hotel entrance where the locals go and is worth visiting. The hotel also does evening meals and these were good too. It also has fitness centre, small expensive shop & hairdresser who will style for 10 euro!Even though it is not walkable realistically into Zagreb (47 degrees when we were there) there are Taxis right outside hotel and are very cheap. Go to the ARENA Shopping Centre....like Dundrum, all shops there and are a bit cheaper than home. Zagreb town centre is LOVELY, check out Old Town & the Cathedral. We went to lovely restuarant across from cathedral and it was great. DONT MISS CROATIA's COAST though - this should only be a few days of your trip to Croatia as the best of it is not here!

Room Tip: If very hot, get a room on 3rd floor otherwise rooms in 5th floor are marginally bigger. Bathrooms t...

When we saw the outside of the hotel, we weren't sure what to expect. However the interior has been renovated and is quite comfortable, although pretty minimalist. Small bathroom with an old shower curtain and a slight stale cigarette smell, but otherwise fine.

Breakfast was definitely a low-light - we recommend eating out.

Service was average.

Free wifi was a highlight, and the location is quite good, an easy 15-20 minute walk out of town.

All that being said, we would probably look for alternative accommodation if we were back in Zagreb.

Location: 20 minutes walk from center of Zagreb, close to a tram stop.
Room: old. It looked old, everything was old. The bathroom itself was quite old too, not having been renovated in a long time.
Breakfast: good choice.

If I were to go back to Zagreb, I would try another hotel. The Hotel Laguna has nothing wrong, but it is quite old and would need renovation.

I have stayed a few times and I always had a good night's sleep, which is a very important for me. Hotel do not look very attractive or welcome from outside, but staff are very nice and accommodating, rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, breakfast is good.
Hotel is located 15 minutes by foot from the city center, which is ok. The only advice I have for this hotel is to tell the receptionist if you are non-smoker because one time I stayed in smoking room although I had a reservation for non-smoking.
