It's cheap... I think is the only good thing about this hotel. The staff looks rude, is far from the city and during the night weird people is going to the club. The restaurant is really poor, the same for the bar. Only for low budget travellers.

We arrived at Hotel Laguna after a long day of missed connexion flights and car rental surprises, feeling relieved that we had reached our destination yet wondering what else could go wrong. The outside of the place does not look great, and the reception or dining area either so at first I was a bit skeptical. You see, the hotel was built in a time when it was believed that orange, brown and pink were compatible colors. Oh and there is a big sign next to reception advertising "Night Club Laguna" offering lap dances...
But we checked in with a cordial enough reception clerk and proceeded to a clean room with everything we needed: a new enough bedding, and AC system, a small fridge and a functional washroom with nice towels. The Laguna is in Zagreb city but not downtown. During our stay, we left the car in the (free) parking and took the tramway. Breakfast was full of options and conveniently served from 6:00 to 10:00. Overall, Hotel Laguna is a good value for the price.
If you go, try to also visit the "Zar" Grill in front, which is a really good Croatian eaterie where the locals go (bring your dictionary, no English spoken).

As we were travelling for football and accommodation would be in demand, I made contact with the hotel and confirmed all the details as soon as the booking was made - great and prompt replies from Vesna

The hotel, as others have said, does have a certain dated feel to it but don't let that make you think any worse of it - the place is spotless and it easy to see this was a grand building in its day.

We had a triple and a twin room, with neither feeling cramped, with both having a decent bathroom and shower in each. Breakfast was sometimes a bizarre mix of foods but it catered for all in the hotel as everything was being eaten.

The reception are was large and spacious, with the bar just off this to where breakfast was served and yes, this is also where the entrance to the 'nightclub' was - its worth noting that this is NOT heavily advertised, so any travelling with children will not be affected by this, as it was only open in the evening and was discrete with its signage.

The location was good, as we wanted to be close to the centre but far enough away to be able to look around places that were not too heavily commercialised - trams at the top of the road or maybe a 30 minute walk but past some really impressive buildings, so the walk was quite enjoyable

Overall, a good stay at the hotel and one I'd not hesitate in staying at again, should a return to Zagreb happen.

PS - We pre booked a taxi via Taxi Cammeo to/from the airport and they were by far the cheapest being quoted and like the hotel, were prompt and clear in their replies when confirming the booking,

Hotel Laguna is in a run down area of Zagreb and has a 1.5 mile walk to the main area of city centre bars and restaurants. Accommodation needs updating but it is possible to sleep in reasonably comfortable beds . We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel which , with the exception of the fresh bread , were both terrible . The hotel has a poorly stocked bar by the restaurant and a privately owned pole dancing club down a few steps from reception ! The club is open from 9 pm until 5 am daily and the only way into it is through the two entrances to the hotel lobby . We were due to stay 4 nights but checked out immediately after our first breakfast .

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the first floor

This is quite decent hotel in Zagreb. The rooms are bit dated, but very clean and spacious.
Buffet breakfast had a good choice and the staff is OK. Overall, very good choice for short stay on budget in Zagreb.

Nice clean hotel. 800m from the nearest tram lines into town, about a 30min walk from centre. Bit quiet immediately around hotel, just a few bars. Room was a bit dated but clean. Staff spoke English and were polite. Bar just a little pricier than other places, but still around 2E a beer. A/C in the room, and free Wifi.

The only reason we were staying in Zagreb was that we arrived late from Plitvice Lakes, and had a 10 am train from Zagreb to Budapest. Accordingly I wanted a hotel near the train station and hence had booked the family room at Hotel Laguna. The first sight of the hotel was disappointing, as it seemed that the outer walls had not been painted for years. It was clearly an old hotel. However the lobby was large by European standards, and the staff very helpful. We were pleasantly surprised to see the family room had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a dressing area. Very good for just a night stay. We also decided to have dinner in the restaurant and the food was very nice. The complimentary breakfast next morning was also outstanding. Overall it was fantastic value for money. As mentioned in other reviews, there is a dance club in the hotel, and we were with small kids. However we did not find anyone in the lobby or near the hotel that disturbed us in any way. Maybe the dance club was closed that night. Overall, the hotel does need renovation, but still is very good and ideal for a family if you just want to spend one night in Zagreb.
