I stayed at the Astoria as part of a large group booking, although I paid for one extra night. For £80 per night I was expecting a good standard, and was not disappointed. Indeed, it was the best hotel we stayed in all that week.

The hotel is 5 minutes walk from, and opposite, the railway station. This is connected to the bus station (terminus for the airport bus) by tram, which is by far the best means of getting around Zagreb. It is also 10 minutes walk from the hotel to the city centre, so well located.

The hotel is refurbished, the rooms clean and comfortable. Indeed, the only problem was putting out the light on the writing desk, a prominent feature of the room. As I couldn't find a switch I had to resort to pulling the plug which is under the bed... The reception staff were efficient and helpful. The hotel is clearly geared up for large groups and the breakfast was excellent. Not much in the way of bar activity, but there are plenty of such establishments nearby if that's what you need.

This is a great location for seeing the sights of Zagreb. We rode the bus in from the airport (30 kuna each). At the bus station we bought a 24 hour tram pass and rode the tram to the train station. Hotel is only 3 blocks from train station. Staff was friendly and helpful. Water and cookies were available in the lobby. Halls have lights that come on as you walk, but dim afterwards to save money. Room was not large, but was plenty big for the two of us. Bathroom was large and new looking. Storm shades automatically roll up when you enter the room and go down when you exit. First experience with that! We only had one afternoon in Zagreb, but hit the highlights of the downtown area. Rode the bus out to Miroguy Cemetery. Enjoyed walking around looking at all the different grave markers and dates. That place is huge! Used the hotel's recommendation for dinner- Purger just up a block. Breakfast was the most substantial we had on our week trip.

Stayed for 4 nights at the Best Western Astoria in Zagreb.

Clean, comfortable and located 400 m away from main square.
Service is very good. Breakfast included and extremely good.

Rooms are good but a little bit small. Thats the only point we found that could be improved.
Had a great stay. Would recommend it and come back if visiting Zagreb in the future.

Super Clean, fabulous breakfast, polite and friendly staff, awesome location! Walking distance from pretty much everywhere!
The room was big, very comfy and super clean!
The staff was amazing: from the front desk to the kitchen, everyone was more than happy to help! The hotel is child friendly, there is private parking, the breakfast room in big, very organized. 10!

The hotel, very cozy and cuddle, is very close to the center of Zagreb. The large and free parking is really a "luxury" almost as much as the wide variety of rich buffet breakfast. The staff, fluent English speacking, is very helpful.
In the first instance I wanted to point out the lack of teapots for breakfast and the inability to regulate the temperature of the room (set to more than 25 ° C). But when I got home, I read more carefully my payment MasterCard ticket:
"I agree to choose the conversion rate proposed on the POS screen and I have chosen not to use MasterCard currency conversion process and I agree that I will have no recourse against MasterCard neither Raiffeisenbank Austria dd concerning the currency conversion or its disclosure".
Given that no one showed me the screen of the POS, I am a credit cards user for forty years and this is the first time that such a thing happens to me. With this "trick" Astoria Hotel and Raiffeisenbank earned "only" 3.46%: but the big companies move their money from one country to another for much less.
