Athenee Palace Hilton is well located, across the square from the Art Museum and within walking distance of the main sights of Bucharest such as the Old City, History museum and Parliament building. When you enter the building the foyer is absolutely spectacular, with marble columns and chandeliers etc.
The rooms are large - ours was in fact 2 rooms, nicely furnished with a couple of chairs, a writing table and, best of all, a pod coffee machine. The decor is rather tired - the carpet should be replaced. However the king-sized bed was new and very comfortable. Our room was on the side of the building (ie. not over-looking the square) so the view was not very attractive, but it meant the room was very quiet. The doors to a rather charming Juliet balcony did not open. Airconditioning worked well and drapes kept the night lights out. Wifi was fast, reliable and free.
The bathroom was adequate - fairly spacious, marble, but shower over bath and toilet rather inconveniently tucked into an alcove. Nowhere to put toiletries.
Breakfast was buffet-style with everything you could want. There are several restaurants in the hotel (Roberto's served very good but slow Italian food) but there are also many cafes and restaurants in the area.
Service at reception was variable - we had one unhelpful young man, but later a charming girl. Concierge service was likewise.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel.More
