Pullman Bucharest World Trade Center
Ranked #21 of 169 Hotels in Bucharest
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 1 September 2011

Stayed in 8 hotels during a recent trip to the Balkans and the Pullman was the best. Great rooms with excellant A/C/. The hotel has several restaurants. Usually, I find hotel food poor to good. The food in this hotel is excellant!! Since the hotel is run by a French Company, I would expect nothing less.

Some reviews seem to be disappointed that the hotel is not in the center of the city. To me that was an adventage. Unlike most European cities, Bucharest is not a "walkers" city. No quaint shops and restaurants lining the boulavards. To find that, you need to look on the perimeter of this city like the area where the Pullman is located.

There is a nice huge park and lake across the street where you can eat a meal, have a beer or just people watch.

I can highly recommend this hotel.

Business and tour bus hotel far from the centre. This hotel has a number of restaurants and mini mall with shops and bank machines. Also a fitness room.
Park nearby with a lake. I ate at a restaurant in the park.
This was a most comfortable stay but did not get a chance to go back to town as too awkward.

We were impressed by the standard of the rooms - very comfortable, and great views overlooking the city and local park. We had a good breakfast buffet, and one evening meal (as part of the package) that was good. Just a few minutes walk away is the Lake Herastrau park with cafes and bars (and a Hard Rock Cafe!) which is very pleasant during the day. The only drawback is that despite it being opposite a large tram and bus terminus, non of the buses or trams go into the city centre! A taxi is needed for city centre visits (costs around RON15-20) from an approved yellow cab and takes about 15-20 mins (ask the Lobby staff to order a taxi) You can walk into the city, but it would take about an hour at leisurely pace. We had good service from the staff, and would stay again, just a shame that local transport does not connect to city centre!

Ten years ago this was an outstanding property but it's standards are slipping, The front of the building is showing it's age and the rooms are beginning to show wear and tear. Accor does not seem to be putting money back into the property which is a shame.

When we arrived we hoped to eat dinner at the hotel only to find that only one of the four restaurants was open. The only one that was opened was staffed by two ladies who were far more interested in gossiping than serving guests, To their credit, one staff member provided us with good alternatives near the hotel for our dinner needs.

A hotel staff member called our room at 10:00pm to inform us that the breakfast rate that we were quoted at check-in (10 EUR) would not be honored and we would have to pay more for breakfast (18 EUR). In the big scheme of things is 8 EUR is not a big deal, but the staff handled the situation with little tact. I would expect much more for a property of this standard. Customer service does not seem to be a strength.

If you can get this hotel at a discount, by all means do it. It's comfortable and posh for Bucharest. If you're paying full price I would give this place a pass. It's on the way down sadly which is a shame because the location and facilities are convenient.

Upon arriving at the Pullman, we thought we were about to enjoy a common level of comfort provided by most International Hotels. We could not have been further from the mark.

Firstly, Our name on the reservation was wrong, a pretty spectacular feat considering that I booked on-line directly with Accor. Once they found the booking, we were asked, as is usual, for a credit card as security against the room. We were not, however, informed that this would incur a charge of 300EUR that, almost a week later, has still not been returned to us.

On our first night, we opted to enjoy a meal at the hotel's own steakhouse - and whilst enjoyable, this was very overpriced for the quality of the meal. It is worth noting that this was the only time during our stay that we received decent customer service.

On our second night, after a busy day in Bucharest, we decided to order in, and got room service for dinner. 20 mins after ordering a simple pasta dish from the lacklustre menu, we were contacted my phone to say that there was no pasta available on site. By this stage, I was slowly loosing my patience.

On our final morning, we went down for breakfast early, and after which, requested the front desk to call us a cab to the train station, as we had a connection to make. We went up to our room, finished packing, and went back to the lobby to checkout for the time we had requested a cab. It was only at the end of checkout that we were informed that there were no cabs available, and that the receptionist would have to contact another cab, whom then took an extra 20mins to arrive - By all standards, this is customer service in its most Pathetic form, and even more pathetic from a brand that aligns itself with the needs of business travellers.

The checkout experience was just as appaling as the rest of our stay, where we were charged again for our accomodation that was pre-paid at booking. I called Accor in the UK (where I live) to sort this out, and they explained that I needed to call the Hotel directly. So now, to try and recover what is in excess of £170, i have had to pay to make a lengthy telephone call to Romania, only to be told that there is actually no one there than can help me, and can I please send an email. This issue has still not been resolved.

Overall - The Pullman World Trade Centre Bucharest, is a Farce - A proverbial "Wolf in sheep's clothing" - An International Hotel that, at it's core, is just as shifty as the rest of Bucharest.
