Even though the atmosphere was nice it took ages for service to bring the food which was not even cooked well.

This is actually now run as two restaurants. The building is gorgeous, there's no doubt about it but the food is so so. I'm not saying it is bad, it isn't, but it isn't outstanding either. Also, make sure you ask for everything on your table, or they might bring things like bread, and in the end you've got to pay for it.
I did enjoy our meal here though and we had a good walk around the upper terrace to get a glimpse of the courtyard.

This is a wonderful place, a huge old hotel and garden restaurant built in the old Romanian style. The hotel I did not sample, but dinner was excellent and the place was packed with locals, a good sign. A musician or two play old Romanian standards, some gypsie tunes and throw in occasional songs a la Barry Manolo. The music was the right level in half acre courtyard to add to, rather than impede conversation. Being a vegetarian there was not much on the menu for me, but the Salat de Vara was filled with really quite tasty tomatoes, onion and cucumber. Oh, and there is a Lebanese menu on the courtyard level, not on the surrounding balcony, so there are even more salads from which to choose. Sadly, Romanians are heavy smokers and not shy about contaminating your air, so beware.

I have been to this place many times before, but not in the recent years. It used to be a quite average tavern and a quite boring environment, despite its historical meaning.
I was pleasantly surprised by its rejuvenation, an example which gives me hopes that not everything is lost in this country.
The arrangement is charming, the service was excellent, the food was good and well-priced - you can hardly ask for much more in the Bucharest's old town centre.

Take time with you for a dinner, about one hour to get the food. The food quality is average, there are much better places. The location is nice, rustic.
