“Perfect for a city trip for young and old”
Reviewed 11 August 2006

This hotel is an absolute dream.
Situated right in the centre of bucharest 50 meters from one of the main boulevards, about 500 meters from piata unrii and the people's palace, about 10 meters from clubs like Club A (lol, great place) and Twice. In short: excellent location.
The interior is top notch. Cosy, trendy, luxuruous.
Add the suberb staff really tops it of
a truly deserved number one in the list
I hope they can keep their rates low, so students like me can come back to enjoy a beautiful city with great people with a prefect accomodation.

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — that it is always booked full !
  • Tips/Secrets — check out Club A near the Rembrandt (just ask), great place to mingle and talk with locals. Mostly student crowd (age 18-28)

We spent four nights in June at the small, quiet Hotel Rembrandt and found our immaculate standard room (there are three categories) to offer comfortable beds and to be quite spacious. Completed just a year ago in the city's historic core by a Dutch company, the hotel is in excellent condition. The basic reception area belies how attractive the private rooms are. Our room held a large bathroom; leather chairs; excellent lighting; a safe; a TV with many channels in English; a dark-wood floor; and much more. Its air conditioning worked quietly and extremely well; and two free small bottles of water with two glasses greeted us daily.

Seriously needed renovations and remodeling have started in the district where the hotel is located. Though the area is safe, mostly decrepit buildings abound, including those that flank the hotel. A view of trash next door led us to keep our drapes closed, but we wanted comfort here rather than a panoramic vista and the comfort exceeded our expectations.

The friendly hotel staff all spoke excellent English and went out of their way to accommodate our needs. For example, one morning we had to leave before the serving time for breakfast and the night man at reception put out buffet items and made coffee for us. Reception also arranged a taxi to the airport for us with the cost (substantially less than we paid coming from the airport into Bucharest) added to our hotel bill. Laundry is done in-house at a reasonable price, though the ironing of our items could have been better.

From the hotel, it is an easy walk to many places of interest, including the Palace of Parliament; the National Art Museum; and Cismigiu Garden. Myriad good restaurants are also nearby. These include Restaurantul si Terasa Doamnei, Str. Doamnei 9, a 1-minute walk away. This restaurant serves traditional Romanian cuisine and puts on a show of Romanian folk dances, songs and music. For a change of pace, we found Bellini, Str. Ion Ghica 1, a 2-minute walk, to offer excellent Italian fare along with music provided by a piano player.

The Rembrandt is a Dutch owned town house built in the style of a Canal House with huge windows. The location for Bucharest is perfect. In the heart of the old town but off the main roads. It is situated across the road from the impressive Mint Building. The President's Palace is a 20 minute walk. Bustling University Square is around the corner

Small intimate reception area. Each guest is invited into the Mezzanine Bar on arrival and offered a welcome drink. Bar stays open very very late for guests.

Breakfast is more than fine. Continental style. Rooms are the best part of the hotel. We had a huge twin room with all facilities and a TV with 30 channels. (Didn't understand most of them mind!)

Just a stones throw from the hotel are countless attractively decorated bars and cafes. The Old Town still has a bit of a way to go but it is getting there! And finally I didn't see one stray dog in three days. Juts watch the cab drivers!!

I enjoyed my stay here, for four nights. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and eager to help, and the room was great - very clean, quite stylish. So why did it get a four only? It was hard to pull the plug out of the bath. i have weak hands (rheumatism) and it involved leaning from the end of the bath to try to pull it out, as the shower glass covered half of the bath length. Had to leave it one night, and had a really determined go the next morning. Furniture was nice, but possibly because it was reasonable quality (without runners), the drawers were so hard to open that I didn't use them. I was very disappointed (at 135 Euros nightly) that there was no tea/coffee/kettle in the room. I also thought that the breakfast was quite poor, with a small selection of meats - though it is, of course, a small hotel. Wouldn't stay again. The International was only about 30 Euros dearer!

We loved the Rembrandt. We found it well located with excellent and very professional service and finally, beds that didn't make you feel as if you beaten by a baseball bat all night long.

We stayed for three nights at the Rembrandt following two weeks of volunteering at an orphanage in rural Tutova, Romania. 8 of us stayed in all the rooms and loved it. Yes.... some of the nearby buildings are decrepit... but we were not looking for a view. But rather were looking for a serene, peaceful, quiet and quality service location.

Staff was excellent.... rooms were perfect: clean, large and well furnished. Very contemporary. Breakfast was just fine... free welcome drink upon arrival. The hotel is also in a save area

Perfect location downtown with good restaurants nearby and right off the boulevard. We strongly recommend this Dutch-owned hotel in contrast to larger more sterile locations and buildings. We also believe the planned World Bank renovations of the beautiful old buildings in the area will make it a charming location over time in this emerging city. It's not what it will be, but Bucharest will shine.

We think the Rembrandt was great and don't think you'll be disappointed if you like small boutique hotels at moderate prices.
