“Exellent location; very good room; rather drab building”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

This is very good value with excellent location but need to be accept that it lacks all charm, is good just to sleep in the room and in fact has downside of drab, stinky entryway. Position is excellent if you like "old city" experience- steps off Calei Victoriei next to National History Museum; ten minutes walk to the Palace/Atheneum for art and concerts or eight minutes walk to University Place metro. Down Lipscani away from Victoriei gets quite boisterous with nightlife like on a college bar strip, but there are good restaurants in the area. Staff helpful and responsive. Room small but very well maintained and bathroom had new, well-functioning fittings. No issues there. Mine (number four) lacked a window, but no odor problem. Main issue is the stinky, very drab entrance. Computer for internet access a real benefit. Basically, if you adjust your expctations, get past the entryway and quite functional reception area, you have a good value well located place to stay.

The location of the hotel is perfect and the staff were very nice BUT the smell in our rooms (number 2 and 3 at the first floor) was so bad, we couldn't stand it.
We ask to leave the hotel when we found out about smell but they told as we not gonna get the money back.

Room Tip: Ask if the smell problem has been solved

The location in historic Strada Lipscani, and just a few steps from Calea Victoriei, is the best possible. Ana, on the reception desk, could not have been more helpful, offering to print my boarding pass for my flight home, and to phone for a taxi for me. My room was internal, but I soon got used to it, and really needed only to sleep in the room, and have a shower. The breakfast (at City Grill next door, with a voucher) was splendid!

Much like others have said:
The entrance is down a dingy corridor and reception smells of cigarette smoke but the room was clean and the bed comfortable; the air con was excellent. It is very well-located near to bars and restaurants and some beautiful Orthodox churches and the big park. The room I had did have a window (on to the back of another building, but widow none the less).

Plumbing problems: the shower has only a trickle (literally, I'm planning to wash my hair in the sink) and the toilet cistern has leaked all night so the bathroom floor is awash. The bathroom floor was also wet on arrival to the point where water squeezes up through the joins in the tiles! This therefore is not a new problem and I suspect management don't intend to fix it.

All in all - for €36/night I would expect to be able to shower easily and not have to pick across a soaking floor of toilet water. However, the rooms are really clean and the aircon is a blessing (also means no mosquitoes!) and it provided a good night's sleep.

We can highly recommend Hostel Miorita. It is a clean and quiet Hostel in the center of Bucarest.
Monica and Daniel at the reception were friendly and very helpfull. You can enjoy the Bars and restaurants round Lipscani Street by walk. Beware of the Taxi-Drivers which were waiting in the evening in the street at Hotel Victoria. They want to cheat.

our stay at miorita contained a friendly but uninvited cockroach, a leaky toilet, a leaky shower, a view of a rather unattractive brick wall and rude reception staff. oh! and a super friendly cleaning lady.

€30 can go a long way in Bucharest. It'll buy you one night here, at a neat and somewhat modern hotel right in the old town - a perfect location for exploring the best part of the city. Unfortunately, I can't recommend Hostel Miorita.

The rooms have no windows to the outside, which makes things very warm at night in the summer - 30+ degrees makes it difficult to sleep. You can take a shower to cool off, but you'd be lucky to get more than a trickle - and I mean that entirely literally. Furthermore, the shower leaks badly and the whole bathroom turns into a swamp. There is a drainage hole in the middle of the floor, but it's still quite unpleasant. Finally, you will be charged if you drink anything from the mini fridge - which is NOT something I would deduct points for, since it's a fairly standard practice, but you will also be charged if you make and drink any of the instant teas or coffees on the little display plate on the desk. They aren't near the mini fridge, and they look gratis but are not.

Overall, you can get a much better value in Bucharest. Despite the great location, I can't recommend this hotel.
