“An average looking like with really good italian food... For those who favors the taste prior to look and service.”
Reviewed 4 January 2012

As I mentioned in the title: if you're looking for a restaurant with excellent service or special care, you will want another place for this evening... The place is not special in any way, just the bare minimum needed, but the food is simply awesome.. It was a time when I've visited the place frequently, wanting to try out everything from the menu.
This is the place where you want to spend a cozy evening with your friends, have a ligth smalltalk over tasty food and a glass of good vine, without being critical with the things around you.

“Never to be compared with any Italian restaurant”
Reviewed 24 August 2011

La Cena, the one nearest the Italian School, is really an Eastern Eirope pizzeria, with grumpy waiters (especially the girls), with late service, not so good food, very smoky and noisy.

“Italian Restaurant to be avoided”
Reviewed 2 June 2010

La Cena is one of two related establishments, the other being La Cena2. We had intended to go to La Cena2 but upon our arrival we were told they were closed due to a private function but that we were welcome to eat in the back garden. It was raining so we thought we would be under a covered area but to our utter astonishment there was only a single umbrella already fully occupied while the rest of the tables were in the pouring rain. We went back indoors and were told we could also eat at La Cena to which we duly went given that La Cena2 was recommended to us by a local.

Upon arriving at La Cena we entered a long narrow hall from which some stairs went up one of the sides. A person in a polo shirt and faded jeans greeted us then proceeded to stare at us. We asked if he worked there so as to enquire were the actual restaurant was. "Obviously I work here" was the retort - not so obvious given what he wore.

We then proceeded up the nondescript stairs to enter a simple 'pizzeria' styled room. The menu was nothing unusual. All the dishes we ordered were flavourless. The olive paste covered Crostinis, the Zuppa di Peperoni, the meat lasagne and the grilled vegetables. On top of which many were too oily or smothered in too much sauce like the tagliatelle.

But the crowning event was the Crème Brulee. This is the first time we have ever seen such a disaster. It was covered in sugar as if the chef simply sprinkled as much sugar as he could on it and then attempted to unsuccessfully flambé it with a Bunsen burner. There were burnt pieces of sugar everywhere which we scraped away to get at the Crème Brulee below which it simply looked like an old custard. While it is a French dish one nevertheless would expect a restaurant to know how to prepare it if they list it on their menu.

All in all a very disappointing experience that can only be avoided. Please note that this is La Cena not La Cena2 the food of which I cannot comment on but given they are related I would recommend caution.
