Finally, a restored piece of history in Kalemegdan where you can see an added value to reconstruction - art events in tower deepen the basic experience provided by the tower stories through the history of Belgrade. Worth seeing.

Recently renovated, this tower could become cool place to hang out, see some art or just a part of larger future development. Right now it is secluded spot on the banks of the river, and you would rarely go there if you are not runner or hiker.

This medieval tower is situated on mouth of river Sava in river Danube, the largest European river. Once upon a time its purpose was to protect town and trade on the river and River Port in the foot on nearby fortification of city Belgrade. Later during Ottoman Turks occupation of Belgrade it was used as dungeon for opponents of Turkish rule. Now it is very modern and multimedia museum which has 3 floor exhibitions. One floor is dedicated to great Greek poet RIGAS FERAIOS who was all his life fighting for freedom of Greeks and all other people on the Balkan Peninsula. He was imprisoned and tortured by Turks there and there he died together with Serbian fighters for freedom against Turkish occupation. It is symbol of Greek-Serbian friendship. Its renovation was financed by Greek state.
