This was the weirdest experience I've had in Kiev. I do like the Hyatt as a hotel having stayed there before. I've never been to the Grill Asia other then for breakfast and after the mixed reviews I felt I just had to try it. Indeed, what a mixed bag!
Menu seems to be all over the place, Thai, Malaysian, Sushi(!!!), Steaks ... Then there was the bread basket ...
I've ordered Larb Gai (thai cold mince chicken salad) as a starter and it was the only good dish of my dinner. Just as spicy as one would expect it (going by experience I'm sure by Ukrainian standard that's _very_ spicy). By the way no sticky rice to go with this, only jasmine.
I'm quite partial to Thai food, but the Tom Yum Goong was nothing like I've ever tasted before. It was just awful. I felt bad that the poor shrimp had to end up in such a bad soup.
Wanting to give the cooks one more chance I ordered Pad Thai. I watched the hapless chinese cook fry the noodles in the wok (the cooking station is in the middle of the floor). I had to exercise all self control not to run up there as I watched him overcook my food which duly arrived as a sticky blob resembling tofu in jelly. Nightmare.
I shoudl also mention the super-overpriced wines on the list at level of around quadruple of London restaurant prices.
I really wished the Hyatt sorted this out - ideally by focusing on one particular style of cooking which they could really excel at. As it is this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in Kiev, not to speak about the overly familiar waitress.
Bar on the 8th and it's skewered meat will have to do in the meantime.
