This restaurant came highly recommended by locals in Kiev. After my visit I can only agree.

The restaurant is situated very central and close to the "Ploshcha Lva Tolstoho" metro station. The design and interiour is beautiful and above Kiev standards. The restaurant has 2 floors (street level floor and basement floor), which is very typical for Kiev restaurants.

A positive thing about this restaurant is that you can find the Italian inspired menu on their website (also in English). The prices are above average for Kiev, but so is the quality of the food.

If you visit Kiev and want quality food in a good atmosphere, I highly recommend this place.

Upon entering 'Underworld' from street level, it is nothing special. Very much a typical Meditteranean bistro in style. But then descend the stairs to the basement and one finds oneself immersed in an other World entirely. A cavernous, yet intimate, wine cellar that has been transformed into a chic and contemporary space that is well planned in layout and thoughtfully furnished, very much with the privacy and experience of the customer in mind. Truly beautiful.
Food-wise, we tried the ravioli nero and figs with goats cheese and parma ham to start. The fig and cheese plate was sublime, yet the ravioli sadly drenched in a little too much creamy sauce which was a bit overpowered by dill. We followed with veal cheeks and a scallop, porcini, pecorino and truffle risotto, the latter tasting and being executed to absolute perfection, yet the veal cheeks were far too sweet. A shame, as the meat itself was both tender and moist.
To finish, just one chocolate fondant (Moulleux on the menu) with pistachio ice cream, both of which were simply delicious.
Apart from the incredible ambience this restaurant exudes, the highlight of our evening was our gracious server Mischa [my apology if mispelled] He is one of the best and knows the menu inside out.
Thank you to Mischa for making our anniversary celebrations just perfect! We will most definitely be eating with you again.

Prices are pretty cheap for international standard although it might be expensive in Kiev.
I had lunch twice there spending around 500 UAH average ( 60 bucks) for entry/main dish/2 glasses of wines + tea/coffee. Pretty good deal considering the quality of food is the best i've tried in Kiev.
I felt a little bit unwelcomed first time when i was dressed with street clothes, but whatever, food is worth it. The times i returned service was fine.

This restaurant serves the best food in Kiev. The salads and particularly the goose is incomparable. If like me you are a no smoling fan, fight your way through the smoke on level one and go into the slightly austere basement. The service is hit and miss, the tables are a little uncomfortable but the food is great and this in Kiev is a real rarilty.
