Whoever is in the kitchen at Barkas knows what he is doing.

We started with creme of muscle soup - delectable and a warm seafood salad. Both where above average; the soup velvety and full of plump muscles and the salad delicate with a variety of crustaceans and pieces of tender fish.

Next from the not-fish section a superb rack of lamb done with pistachios and a wonderful wine reduction sauce. We also sampled the duck confit with figs. The figs were in the reduction sauce and the rosemary complemented the dish to perfection.

We chose a fine Crimean Chardonnay from Esse on the recommendation of the waiter. We were not disappointed. The wine selection is good if not a little pricey.

Again on the recommendation of the waiter we both had the chef's special cheese cake for dessert. It was a light lemony cheese cake sitting on a boozy pound cake base basking in a sweet lemony reduction. Fantastic.

Barkas is by far the best restaurant we have sampled to date in what has been a week of good to great restaurants in the Ukraine. This is a great one.

A little pricy by Kiev standards but a real bargain anywhere in the west.

This restaurant is recommended for people who understand something in culinary. Here you will find wonderful atmosphere with bright interior. Menu is typically European (small) but all food is awesome. Try salmon and sturgeon. Medallions are very good as well. Collection of wines is impressive but pricey. Also try cheesecake! Its awesome!!! Unfortunately, waiter did not gave me receipt of this dessert.
Must say that Aleksandr Yankovskii is the chef of this restaurant. He took part in Hells Kitchen TV show and was one of the best cooks in second season. You can easily find him on the first floor of the restaurant.

Super tasty pickled tomatoes as a part of the pickled vegetables plate, really liked that. Fish as a main ok, grilled veg horrible, couldn't decide whether that was just a bitter courgette or whether they left some soap on the grill. Salad with croutons and pickled peppers was explosion of flavour so overall hit and miss. Add tea and one beer and you arrive at 480 hrivnas, thats 40 quid for one person. Wont be going back.

We used this place for our wedding anniversary - there was no problem with accommodating a party of about 30 people in our own room. The menu looks good, and the dishes do not disappoint. Veal cutlets were a particular hit with our group; variety of starters is amazing. Waiters are extremely friendly and welcoming, attending to all our requests immediately. All in all, comes highly recommended. The venue is still very new, let's hope they keep up the good work.
