The actual name of the restaurant is Varenichnaya Katysha (Katyusha).
I'm in Kiev from 28th Sep 2013 for 2 weeks and I've been eating here almost everyday. First and foremost, I love the ambience of this restaurant. Its got a very warm, cozy and homely feeling with all the paintings and the antique stuff that they've got around the place. They've got 2 televisions always playing old Russian movies. There is also an outside seating area.
The staff are mainly young girls or guys, although they do not smile at first, they are very helpful. It took a couple of smiles from us to break the ice and get them to smile back but they finally got to it. Some of them may speak English as well and if not, they at least understand it.
The food here is simply amazing. I've had most of the typical Ukranian food like Vareniki's, Pelmeni's (Siberian), Olivye Salad, Coated Herring salad, Cabbage salad with fresh cucumbers and dill and Home-cooked potatoes. Most of the food was really good and served at the right temperatures except for the Borsch which was served lukewarm. I had to request them to re-heat it as I liked it piping hot.
Value for money?? Definitely yes. The food is not expensive, The portions are small, however when combined with other foods, its quite a meal. On most occasions, we were two of us and each of us would order for 1 soups, 1 salad, 1 main course and drinks. The total bill for 2 of us would amount to the region of USD 20 to USD 25 and sometimes even less.
