This is a good hotel if you want something different from the big, anonymous national chains that all offer much the same thing. It's quite small, very clean, with staff who speak good English and try hard to please. The room we had was large, light and well-equipped, with fresh fruit provided The bathroom was perfectly adequately and everything in it worked well. But there are tell-tale signs of a Soviet past, for example in the over-manning in the reception area and the restaurant, in the rather drab interiors, and in the ladies who watch who enters and leaves the bedrooms. But the staff all make you feel genuinely welcome. The buffet breakfast is ample. The location is OK, but it's not in the city centre and it's away from the main sights. It is, however, very near the funicular that takes you up to the central area. It's cheap and frequent but it stops running at 10 p.m. in the winter, so you have to get a taxi from the centre. There is also a nearby metro station if you feel brave enough to take your chances on it - a hair-raising experience but very satisfying if you finish up where you want to be. The hotel is close to a McDonalds (ugh!) and to a very good Italian-style restaurant.

Room Tip: The restaurant on the ground floor can be noisy, so rooms on the top floor are probably the best bet...

Stayed one night recently at this hotel in the Podol district of Kiev on business. I didn't choose it - was close to business.

So it's rack rate is €140 per night. This is a "standard" room with a bed barely the size of 1.5 single beds. Bathroom looks like something you would install at home rather than a hotel bathroom. Plastic fittings everywhere.

Inside the bathroom cabinet, there are things to buy like toothbrushes, razors and panty liners!

Breakfast is served in the ground floor restaurant called "shooters". Plentiful but not varied.Free wifi.

Fruit bowl (2 apples and oranges) in room. Wall mounted flat screen TV.

So of course the real challenge with this hotel is the service. Friendly women at reception but surly porters. At check out they still have the soviet practice of calling the cleaning lady to see if you stole anything from the minibar!

All in all, overpriced, lost in time and to be avoided by the frequent traveller!

I have stayed twice more at the Impressa where, good service, politeness, excellent and willing service, good amenities in the rooms, and always the freshest of fruits to enjoy, with a welcome chocolate on the bed as you arrive am derive to make your stay very special indeed.
Rooms are all unique none are the same, comfortable beds plenty of space, is the standard.I have noticed that the wi fi only works on floor you are on so this does add extra security with an ultra fast wi-fi, to boot excuse the pun.
I like the rooms I have stayed in and even if you are on the front it its easy to sleep as the road outside did not disturb me at all.
I think of this great hotel which has only 18 rooms, as my home in Kiev now, so much so that when i had a problem with my car, and had to leave it there whilst i went to London, it had a fuel problem, they got fuel for my car and kept it there for 12 days and even arranged a car from the airport for me to get back at a very reasonable charge for the taxi, and keeping the car for me, this is what i mean about friendly and welcome home service its unique to find it in this way without it being at all intrusive. There is of course the Shooters 24/7 restaurant as part of the hotel with a terrific breakfast choice, to start your day the best way. Now they have all weather dining on the sidewalk café behind glass so that you can still see all the action on this beautiful street, great for people watching,, it has radiators and under-floor heating and even blankets if you should feel chilly.
its the best of all worlds a great hotel with a great eatery as part of the hotel. Some one said in a review that they didn't understand the kilts and Scottish theme well, its because this theme represents the Scottish people that own Shooters and Shooters entertainment centre in a different part ot town, but wow doesn't it look attractive on the pretty girls. I will be back again in a week or so , thanks Impressa for my Kiev home coming

A very conveniently sitauted small business hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and very helpful. The restaurant was good too although the choice of music and the tartan theme was puzzling. I have already recommnded the hotel to colleagues

Room Tip: Try to get a room that doesn't face the street.

The Impressa promotes itself as a business hotel with just 18 bedrooms in a former merchant house with all mod cons including 300 channels on your TV (if you can find them), wi fi, mini bar etc. It wasn't quite what I expected, being situated right on the main street in Podil with its neon lit bars and fast food restaurants. The reception staff were welcoming and all spoke good English which is a rarity in Kiev, it seems. My little room at the back of the hotel was quiet and well-appointed with an excellent bathroom. However, it was expensive for what it was. My single room supplement for a three night stay totalled £177 which I thought was iniquitous.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back of the hotel as those fronting onto the main street could be noisy.

My wife and I had the pleasure to visit Kiev again on 28th and 29th August, We returned to the Impressa Hotel, It just gets better very time you go back. It has charm, style a friendly comfortable atmosphere, is immaculately maintained and spotlessly clean. The staff are both friendly and helpful. We walked up and down the street outside before going to bed on a balmy warm summer evening soaking up the atmosphere of the side walk café's, guitar music drifting on to your ears. The Impressa is Iocated in a fabulous location and because its small and intimate it has the feeling of returning to your home. It also has Shooters restaurant and sidewalk cafe, which has become firmly established since it was opened there early this year and breakfast of many choices both hot and cold, go back to the buffet as much as you want it's there to fill and delight your taste buds.I was also surprised and the wireless internet connection 300mps,instead of the normal 54mps where I have stayed around the world, so its almost instantaneous, its free and part of the service.

I will be going back and back to this hotel it is quite simply the place to stay.
