This was my 6th trip to Kiev in as many years, on pervious trips I've stayed in a number of hotels in the centre and nothing to write home about, some are even laughable once you've checked out ! We jumped at the chance to stay with a decent hotel chain this time and we where not disappointed. The Hyatt is better than all the other hotels in Kiev added together.
You know this hotel is different as soon as you get out of the taxi. Perhaps it was the Aston Martin plates something something '007' out side or the hotels great design or both. The Hyatt is a palace to light with a huge glass entrance flooding the reception area with natural light; you look up and see glass elevators rising from eluminated orange casings as they rise through the open floors to a bar on floor 8. This place is seriously modern. Check-in was instant no fuss, no waiting just smiles from the enormously attractive staff.
I shared a twin room with a colleague, the room was Vegas style big, given we were on the cheapest room rate this surprised me. The room had everything a decent hotel room should have desk facing the door , telephone by the toilet, one touch room service and English breakfast tea.
Room Service was a life saver. We managed to order bacon sandwiches with HP sauce and a pot of tea at 3am.
I would have to say the Pool is the hotels strongest asset. Its underground, big (as is the Jacuzzi) and above all relaxing. I had the entire pool to myself most of the time. The changing room is excellent too, I can best describe it as being a long and bending corridor part locker room, salon, steam room, sauna and shower rooms. The salon had complimentary everything and was starting to replace the bathroom in my room after the late nights. It's worth noting they give you a locker which has a robe and slippers. Also there was a spin dryer, really useful things.
There is a bar on the 8th floor and one in reception. The 8th floor bar is part open air and has some amazing views over the river and Alexander square. The drinks where 5star hotel prices, but hey. The toilet on the 8th floor deserves a mention it's made entirely from dark mirrors with dim lighting.
Breakfast was well above average for a buffet in a hotel, was able to get a perfect English breakfast every morning. A huge bonus was it also served until midday.
If your budget reaches to the Kiev Hyatt I would recommend this hotel, its comfort and friendly staff outclass anything else I've seen in Kiev.
