This is probably the best area in all of metro San Salvador. The thing to do is just walk around Plaza Futura, see all the people and restaurants. It also has the best view in San Salvador if you walk past the entrance to the Torre Futura and continue around the curved walkway, you can see all of the city below including the Metropolitan Cathedral in the city center,
the San Vicente Volcano and all the way to your left, looking north is the Guazapa Volcano and behind it the hills of Chalatenango. Across the street is the fantastic Crowne Plaza hotel, with great atmosphere and views. I had the buffet breakfast there every day, just $11.00 after 9am, best deal in town. And the Crowne Plaza is historically significant as it was formerly the Sheraton during the Civil War in the 80's, the site of the John Sullivan and Hammer / Pearlman / Viera tragedies and the 1989 firefight with the guerillas. No trace exists of those events but just walking around the beautiful hotel grounds is an incredible experience for anyone aware of what happened in El Salvador in the 80s.
