“Unfortunate start, SUPER STAY, disappointing end.”
Reviewed 4 January 2010

This is a nice hotel. I am sure it is one of the best in Managua. It is directed next to a mall and has it's own shuttle- and taxiservice at good value. Parking is safe. The rooms are quite luxurious with a rather small but nice and very clean bathroom. The breakfast was excellent where guests also had a lot of choices. The restaurant staff is extremely nice and professional. Diners (excellent beef and lobster) and super New Year buffet were very good!

BUT... what happened at the reception?

1. At check in we received a roomcard (key) to an occupied room. We were suprised and one of the cleaning lady's who was working nextdoor told us that we enterred the room of mister xxx. This should be avoided!

2. We stayed at the top floor executive club level were we supposed to receive hors d'oeuvres, a cocktail hour and an open bar from 6 to 8 (check at premium services at the website). Due to maintenance we were appointed to the lobbybar for those extra's (acceptable sollution). Snacks were not available but the waiter proposed us some cheese. When we ordered 2 cocktails at 7 pm on our first day we received a bill although we were just a few minutes informed by the reception that an open bar included all drinks. After that wrong communication between reception and bar the bill was cancelled without any discussion but finally at check out we had to pay... After a very long discussion and a few calls I had to sign for a cancellation. Without the first 20 and last 20 minutes in this hotel we had an exellent stay.

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for your comment, our main objective is to exceed our client's expectation, that's why we prepare every detail to make your stay an unforgettable experience.

We are sorry for the inconvenience we caused you, first in your room assignment and also in the lack of communication between the hotel reception and bar, it is not an excuse, but the holiday season is generally low occupancy and therefore we have the opportunity to make deep maintenance, for that reason we close some floors and consumption´s centers, however a letter to inform our guests and offer alternative places to enjoy the benefits is provided at the moment of check in, in this case the open bar that is part of the benefit for our guest staying in the Executive Level, was offered in the hotel bar, which includes national drinks and certain foreign drinks, but not cocktails, we will be taking your comment into account to ensure that this situation do not recur and we will be more specific in communicating with our guests.

We would like to have the opportunity to be your host in the near future.

My children (teenagers) and I stayed at the Intercontinental for 3 days two on the front end of the trip and one on the back. I did not know what to expect from Managua and wanted to make sure we were in a clean safe hotel. It did not hurt that I got a great deal from Hotel.com. We loved the hotel. We stayed in the top floor the first time. There was special security to get up to the top two floors. The rooms were very comfortable. Nothing grand but more than enough space for the three of us. We over looked the pool. The bathroom was also very nice and luxurious robes were included. Breakfast was included in with our room. There were so many delicious choices we were filled up through lunch. There was also a complementary cocktail hour for the top two floors....open bar and nibblies were provided. They were different each night. The staff could not have been more helpful. In fact when we returned at the end of our trip 10 days later they remembered us.

One our first night we could not agree on what to do for dinner....I asked one of the staff for recommendations. He suggested the Mall across the street. I could not believe we ate at a Nicaraguan food court but we did. Everyone got what they wanted and my teenage daughter got to compare Malls across the world. Our final night we ate at the hotel restaurant. The food was very good ~ especially the desserts. It was my son's birthday and they brought out a cake with his name on it.

While in Managua we hired a car and driver one day. It was very reasonable. After being driven around and hearing stories from fellow travelers,I would advise against getting a rental car. Not only are the streets poorly marked if at all but rentals are notoriously pulled over. Norman, our driver was very nice. He spoke limited English but that was fine we practiced our Spanish with him. We gave him a list of places we wanted to see in and around Managua (among them were Plaza de Revolucion, Masaya the Volcano and the town, Grenada, and Mombachu). The crafts in Masaya are nice but not spectacular. The prices though are very reasonable. The highlight of the day for us was Mombachu. We had thought of skipping it but Norman said we would really enjoy it and he was right. As it was getting late in the day we did the shorter hike at the top. The views were spectacular. Parts of the hike can be strenuous but it is certainly worth it. The ride up and down from the top is an adventure in itself. Mombachu is well worth a visit.

Thank you to the staff at Intercontinental and to Norman.

Great looking hotel, with great views of the city. Was good, with great views. The view of the building of Nicaragua was awesome. There is also a view of lake Managua, and other cultural amenities of the city. Would recommend as a place with beauty.

We traveled to Managua for a friend's wedding. This was our first time to Nicaragua and decided to stay at the Intercontinental because the wedding was going to be at the hotel. The rooms are of adequate size, but the bathroom was very small. The bathroom door hit the toilet and did not open wide. The rooms are well kept and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. Just make sure you turn the air conditioning back on after your room is serviced because they have a tendency to practically shut it off when they finish with your room. The restaurant had very good food, although very overpriced for Nicaragua. The walls are paper thin, so you tend to hear your neighbors. Very nice pool. Since this is a corporate hotel, rates tend to be higher during the week and cheaper on the weekend. I thought it was a little pricey for Managua, but it is the best hotel in the city. Internet access is really expensive (+$20/day). If you want authentic Nicaraguan food and you don't have a car, there is a restaurant down the street (across the street to the right) called Sabor Nica. It is very cheap and good.

From a corporate, business standpoint, this is one of the best hotels
in all of Nicaragua. Our room was spartan clean, the bath and shower
were all nice, and we had a nice view of the city and lake. But it
didn't have a whole lot of character to it, which was okay, but it's
the price you pay to stay in a nice hotel. Everyone at the front desk
spoke decent English and they were always willing to advise or help us
out in any way possible.

The hotel also has a restaurant, and we ate at its buffet for dinner
and breakfast. It was okay, but not great. In fact, considering the
luxury of the hotel, I would say they were the worst meals. They
weren't bad, just generic, hotel food. We could have gone out, but it
was just easier (after a long flight) to eat in for dinner, and in the
morning we were up and running with our guide.

The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is okay, but they advise you to
not leave outside the hotel walls, unless you want to walk across the
street to the mall, which is just like any other mall in the world.
In summary, it was a great hotel, but the food leaves something to be
desired.

I had the absolute best experience in this hotel. I will definitely be returning. The staff was friendly, rooms were clean. Early every morning the manager walks around inspecting the cleanliness of the hotel. I witnessed him looking under vases and behind tables. The bathrooms are immaculately clean and beautiful. The beds and sheets are so soft. Parking is safe. People are allowed in and out of the hotel without being harrassed.

The breakfast was delicious. The best breakfast I have ever had in a hotel. This is by far the best hotel in Nicaragua.
