The AC is great, breakfast tasty with fresh juice on a patio and the ambience is relaxed. Manfred, our host, is a personable guy who loves to stick around for a chat, so we felt very welcomed. It's a quiet and safe location. Only minor comments is a number of rooms have an AC unit installed to the slanted roof or close by, which can be loud at night and keep you up if you are sensitive to noise. Dinner a bit mediocre, so maybe eat out.

Room Tip: Rooms are very different sizes, we booked the Ramses suite which has by far the most space and nicest feel. We spent one night in a regular room and were glad not to have spent a week in it, it was much smaller.

If you are looking for something a little different and less American, this hotel is for you. If you prefer a personalized experience and a nice outdoor breakfast, consider this hotel. You will not find the standard amenities of large hotels but you will find a wonderful Nicaraguan experience and you will have the opportunity to get to know the kind and caring owner, Manfred.

Room Tip: Stay in a suite for an even better experience.

La Pyramide might not be the priciest or fanciest hotel in Managua but I'd dare any pricey or fancy hotel to offer the comfort and sense of welcome that you get at La Pyramide. All that thanks to Manfred's, the owner, über-personnality and caring. He could't do enough to make you feel welcome as a guest and to be as helpful as it is possible to be. He ended up feeling like family.
My husband used to be in the hotel business and I'm sure he would have tried very hard to recruit someone like Manfred, not that Manfred would have been interested since he has such an amazing operation going.
And, by the way, the hotel's restaurant has delicious food. Don't bother eating anywhere else.

After reading the Trip Advisor reviews, I booked a standard room at the Hotel La Pyramide through Booking.com for two nights. After I booked the room, I noticed that the info stated the reservation was for one person, so I emailed the hotel and requested that the booking be for two people. I received a prompt response from the host, Manfred, that “… the reservation is ok;” however, no information was provided that the price would be higher for two people. The price was $96.00 for two nights plus taxes (15% VAT and 2% city tax). I then booked a suite for our friends and checked to be sure that the Booking.com info indicated that the booking was for two people, the price being $120 for two nights, plus taxes. We found Manfred to be most hospitable and helpful and dedicated as noted in the Trip Advisor reviews. However, the walls of our room were very thin, and it sounded like the guy in the next room was in our room. A few days after checking out, I reviewed the billing information and noted that we were charged more than the Booking.com price indicated ($140.20 total for the standard room and $176.20 for the suite) . I emailed the hotel and was informed that the bookings I made were for one person and the higher price was for two people. Next time, I would definitely phone or email the hotel and book directly with Manfred to get the accurate price information. We stayed the following night at the Crowne Plaza Hotel for $102.00 (taxes included, as well as a gourmet breakfast buffet), and this hotel for a few dollars more we felt was far superior to La Pyramide in quality as well as location (close to the lake). We hired a wonderful taxi driver from Managua named Antonio for a day. We paid him $45 for the day (almost 12 hours) plus $30 for gasoline, and we travelled from Managua to the volcano near Masaya, the local and tourist markets in Masaya, the crater/lake at Catarina, and Granada. Contrary to what we were told, we decided to carry our passports with us. Our taxi was stopped by the police near Masaya, and our passports were requested, so we were glad we had brought them along. Next time, we would stay in Granada rather than Managua. Be very cautious if going to Catarina, as our stuff was stolen from the trunk of the taxi. Apparently, the local taxi drivers are aware that there is a conspiracy of thieves in that area that work together. After that experience, we kept our valuables with us.

It is rare that one finds a hotel run by such a dedicated individual, who gives incredible personal attention and assistance and genuine care for each and every one of his visitors. The owner takes great pride in what he does, and it shows in this wonderful hotel. I would highly recommend and will hopefully return one day!
