Do you love adventure vacations or is lying around by the pool with a cocktail your preferred retreat? Either way Milagro del Mar offers the vacation you desire! Our family has stayed at the resort every year for the past nine years. We have watched it grow from a few homes to a vibrant beach community. For the adventurers, Milagro del Mar is the perfect home base for exploring Nicaragua's many offerings. We love taking a zip tour over the coffee plantations, shopping for crafts in Masaya or lunch and a boat ride in Granada.

At the resort our favorite activity is horseback riding on the beach, a lovely way to enjoy the mornings. Then our 8-year old daughter loves to hit the swim beach for hours of body surfing, shell gathering, sand castle building and exploring tide pools. After a refreshing shower we head to Tasca to watch the sunset with cocktails in hand and then explore the menu for yummy dinner entrees. My husband usually gets in a few rounds of golf and I always manage to schedule 2-3 massages in the beach massage hut. At $35 for an hour why not do three?!

One great amenity is the grocery shopping list from the concierge. Make your choices, send the list and arrive to find your rental with the pantry and fridge already stocked with your favorite foods and beverages. On site you can pick up a bottle of sunscreen if you run out or forget, as well as bug spray and a few other sundries. The ice cream bars are always a big hit on a hot day!

The worst part of our vacations at Milagro del Mar is when we have to pack our suitcases to go home. Driving away from the beautiful beaches and all of our wonderful friends is the hardest part. Whether we have gone for Spring Break, Thanksgiving, Summer Break or Christmas and New Year's we have always had a wonderful time. We look forward to retirement when we will have the luxury of staying for months at a time instead of a measly week or two....

Room Tip: All of the condos have ocean views, but the top floor is simply spectacular. Coffee on the balcony...

My family rang in this New Year there and can now add more happy M. del M. memories to our book! Surf, sun, swim, horseback ride, golf, eat, drink and be merry, or not. Perfect place to disconnect from routine and reconnect with bliss! And remember to sprinkle some of my ashes in the ocean there.

Milagro Del mar was the most relaxing place i think i have ever been. If you do groceries and get everything you need on the way in from the airport in Managua, you will never have to leave the resort.

We did the bird watch tour, played golf, rode horses, fished on the rocks and most importantly RELAXED at the beach! The Tona's (local beer) are cheap and cold on the resort and the maragrita's are amazing!

I visited Milagro del Mar Resort last year with my favorite travel friend. We have visited a number of places before, generally typical tourist destinations (though we make it off the beaten path occasionally). My experience in Nicaragua (and Milagro del Mar specifically) was pretty special.

One of the reasons we chose to come to Milagro del Mar Resort in Nicaragua was its proximity to the airport and other attractions. It seems like the other ocean front resorts are far south, at least a three hour drive! Upon arriving, we were greeted with friendly, English speaking staff. The condos all have ocean front views, A/C, hot water, internet, cable, and an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. The restaurant (Tasca, I think), had some of the best, freshest seafood I have ever had. Although they had a very extensive menu, our favorites were the fresh whole red snapper and the giant lobster. Their desserts were pretty spectacular as well. The staff were extremely welcoming, and by the middle of our week stay, knew us by name and drink type! :)

They tell us there are over 5 miles of beautiful, uncrowded beach that you can stroll on and waves prefect for swimming and surfing in--seems like it went forever, in any case. If you're the lounging type, Milagro del Mar is perfect for just that (see note about the bar above). If you are on the more active side, they have horseback riding, surfboard lessons and rentals, natural history tours, a spa, and a beautiful ocean front golf course. I'm not a golfer, but I talked to one of the guys playing and he said the course could use a bit of work in a few places (he belongs to a Country Club in the states), but it's got a lot of potential and he had a good time out there. Can't beat the convenience, either.

If you plan on staying for longer than a few days and want to venture out, Osman, the on-site transportation and tours coordinator (and ready and willing ping-pong opponent and honestly, one of the nicer guys I've had the pleasure of meeting--Osman, if you're reading this, congrats on the little one!) has a list of different places to visit. We spent one day visiting a local fishing town just 20 minutes away, where we purchased fish to take back home and cook in the condos. On our way back from the fishing town, we stopped at a local private wildlife reserve, where we walked around and even did a boat tour around the lake. We spent one day in a Colonial town close by called Granada, where they have zip line tours, boat tours on the lake, history tours, and a night tour (bat tour--this is like nothing I've ever done before) at Volcan Masaya. We had so much fun, and being able to have a local English speaking guide like Osman helped enormously. Not having to worry about driving, translating, and knowing just the right places to visit made our trip.

We're looking forward to going back to visit Nicaragua and Milagro del Mar resort. We loved the service and the high standards set at Milagro, as well as the number of other adventures that we didn't have time to try on our first trip.

Whenever people asked me "why Nicaragua?" before I left, I could only say that it had been recommended to my wife. When I arrived at the resort it was instantly apparent we had made the right decision. We were met by friendly, helpful people. In my 10 days at the resort I golfed, swam, wandered the beaches, explored and met some incredible people, some were visitors but my favourites were the local people working at the resort. They truly love their country and love to show it off. We stayed in a beautiful 2 bedroom condo that lacked nothing! Even had English TV so we could stay on top of winter Olympic coverage. Many breakfasts, lunches and dinners at the resort restaurant and never a bad experience. Amazing seafood, great steaks and burgers, salads and even pasta. Nica beer and rum is fantastic and cheap. The golf course is a work in progress, but still very playable for a young course. We played during the dry season so it was a little dry, but that made little difference to us. A chance to play some winter golf at an leisurely pace more than made it worthwhile. Overall, while this resort continues to develop it will only make it better and better. Truly a gem.

We rented a home at Milagro del Mar for a full month, from March until April. Given our abundant time to explore the property and surrounding areas, I can share a thorough review. We have traveled throughout much of Central America, and found this resort to be outstanding in it's location, service, cuisine, and comfort! We had a FANTASTIC and special experience!

In a nutshell, to highlight what's outstanding:

Friendly staff who served our every need, amenities galore, exceptional ocean waves, sunsets like a "show" to be waited for and watched, quiet nights with only the sound of the ocean surf, a very special sense of community on the resort and extending into the nearby villages, and so many destinations for FUN and adventures nearby!!

In more detail, here's what we found:

Location/Setting: The pool overlooking the ocean is gorgeous, the fine sandy beaches in either direction of the resort are clean!!!, and the surf waves are spectacular to watch and play in (since we aren't surfers). We enjoyed walking throughout the resort, along the paving stone sidewalks and streets, under the shady green canopy of the sweetly scented Neem boulevard trees, past it's beautifully maintained homes. Receiving warm invitations to enjoy cocktails with home owners exceeded our expectations. We were very impressed by the comfortable living in the "eco" homes already occupied and envied those involved in new constructions. Beautiful birds and bird songs and vibrantly blooming bougainvillea and hibiscus, even in the dry season!

We enjoyed many day trips exploring nearby destinations. Osmond is very knowledgeable and arranged trips to culturally rich villages, towns and cities including San Marcos, Masatepe, San Juan de Oriente, Masaya, and Granada, and also to volcanoes, craters, and lakes. We highly recommend these tours! Along the way, we discovered the harvest of sugar cane fields, and traveled through scenic mountains. Trips into Managua too. On more than one occasion, we felt very privileged to accompany the resort's general manager on his daily seafood buying trips to the small nearby towns of San Rafael and Masachapa; these were authentic and interesting experiences, purchasing fresh fish, giant prawns, and lobster directly from the fisherman, at excellent prices.

Service: The staff at the resort are THE best! Treated us like family and friends. Office staff helped with phone calls, tour/nature guide met us at the convenience of our rental home and customized outings just for us, restaurant food was very fresh and beautifully prepared, restaurant staff were attentive, yoga instructor and massage therapist were superb, gardeners and housekeeping staff were amazing. We are in awe of the warm Nicaraguan people employed here!

Comfort: We don't take services like this for granted and recognized how fortunate we were to find....reliable high-speed internet, cable TV, bright lighting, air-conditioning, consistent and unlimited hot and cold water, fully flushable toilets, drinkable tap water, and back-up generators. We commend this resort for its efforts to provide all of these comforts, in Nicaragua!

I stayed at Milagro del Mar for 2 weeks in February, 2014. The location is perfect. Miles of beautiful beach to walk with lots of tide pools to explore. The resort was fantastic. Beautiful two bedroom suite right beside the pool and restaurant and 150 feet to the beach. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Food at the restaurant was fantastic. Lobster, steak, shrimp, fish...every meal was great. Whether we were horseback riding, golfing, beach combing, bird watching, getting an oceanside massage, doing yoga, swimming in the ocean, or enjoying a cocktail poolside...everything was perfect. Each day ended with a cocktail and watching the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen. Resort is wonderfully quiet and no one is trying to sell you anything. If you are travelling with someone who has mobility issues this is a great location. One step down as you leave your suite and then wheelchair accessible to the rest of the resort, including an elevator if you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Resort has a wheelchair on site, which was wonderful for me. Would definitely recommend Milagro del Mar as the perfect vacation spot. Have already booked for January, 2015.
