“in a pinch, good place to stay”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

I stayed here only one night and the entire duration was under 12 hours. But the overall experience was fine. I had made a reservation two weeks before arriving which I find helpful in any case. Check-in was easy, they had $1 beers and explained everything I needed to know. It's not a 5-start hostel or hotel so you just need to know what to expect when arriving. Regarding the noise....Casco Viejo in general is loud as it has a good nightlife scene. If you can't handle it then you should just consider staying elsewhere, in general.

Our stay here was HORRIBLE. I made reservations a week in advance and when I arrived with my boyfriend to the hostel, there seemed to be problems with the reservation. We already had reservations to go on the 5:30AM trip to San Blas, which leaves from Luna's Castle. We thought that it was most convenient to just stay there. When we eventually checked in, the room was tiny with a crappy fan and very hot. I live in Panama so I know it's a hot climate, but a window would have been nice. We went to dinner and when we returned, found that our room was right above the night club. The music and bass was so loud it shook the bed until 3AM then between 3-4AM we heard staff cleaning up and shuffling beer cans around. The woman who checked us in knew we were taking transport to San Blas at 5:30AM and didn't even warn us that the room was above a night club. We could even hear people cheering and singing along to the songs, the floor was that thin. When we left in the morning there were people passed out drunk everywhere in the "movie theater" part of the hostel. We got less than an hour of sleep and because of that wasted our entire afternoon at San Blas napping because we could not keep our eyes open. It felt like the experience at Luna's Castle the previous night completely ruined our trip.

Having a night club under a hostel is the worst idea ever. They try to make up for it by offering guests a happy hour deal but I would much rather pay twice, or even three times as much to at least get sleep. For $33 a night there were much better, quieter places we could have stayed that were more comfortable. The hostel is a cool place to hang out and party but if you want to get any rest while traveling, DO NOT STAY HERE YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Room Tip: If you absolutely have to stay here, ask for a room with windows and one as far away from the night...

Enjoyed staying here. There was an underground bar that was busy on the weekend. My first ever hostel and I was impressed. We rented bicycles and saw the town. There were police nearby because the prime minister lived close. There was also a park near by for walking and many locals to meet. The fish place was close and it was fun.

This is an interesting place to meet mostly young people; many that are well traveled, from around the world. It was very busy when we were there. The staff was very helpful and full of information, and they have a separate desk that facilitated our trip to the San Blas Islands. We had a private room, but it was not air-conditioned and was quite warm. There was no window, which was good because it was quieter. There was a fan, somewhat loud. When the bar cranks up (below Luna's Castle) it is very loud and sleep can be an issue, if that is your goal for the night. The staff cleans up regularly and keeps the place clean. Note; they say that they are going to air condition all the rooms next year.

Room Tip: If you want quality sleep, try a private room.

Quirky old building in a good location of Panama city. Pancakes available at breakfast. Staff did not have much knowledge about the san blas islands so we were left worrying about where we were going, but actually all worked out fine.

a little pricey but you do get a lot of space and i went there midweek and there was no noise to keep me from sleeping. i used all there rooms, kitchen, hangouts, movie theatre and it was really nice. if you don't care about all those extra features then hospedaje casa viejo is cheaper and is pretty close by. i stayed there a night and liked it but it is a downgrade

We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom for 2 nights. It was great for the price - clean, private, central location, free breakfast, and fast wifi. As other reviews note, it is loud with music and people coming/going at all hours. With a set of ear plugs, it is a great place to stay.
