Great location with decent accommodations. The free bikes offered were great to tour the old city and use on the bike paths in to the new city. Another plus about this place is the bar attached. Cheap drinks and a great place to meet other travellers. The only downside to the bar is the rooms that are attached to it; the deep bass travels through the walls a bit.

Hi Stephen, Thanks so much for your review. The bikes have been a hit ever since the Cinta Costera opened right at our front door. We're so glad you put them to use and explored the surrounding areas.

We'll be sure to have a beer waiting for you at the bar upon your return. Safe travels, skipper.

I Stayed here for 2 nights while in Panama City. Its close to all the main bars and cafes. Its a really busy hostel. The rooms are big and the beds are super comfy. There is a good bar down stairs that's always lively and they have $1 beer happy Hour. Free Breakfast of Banana, Pancakes & Coffee. There is a tour information desk and free bike rental.

Hi Laura,

We recently bought new mattresses for the entire hostel and we're so pleased that you feel we chose well. We know a comfortable mattress makes all the difference - thanks for sharing!

We haven't changed happy hour prices since opening our first hostel in Bocas del Toro, Panama in 2004. The prices are actually even better than you mentioned! During Happy Hour beers are $0.50 and mixed drinks are $1 for guest.

Come on back and visit us soon. You're always welcome here.

Booked in advance only to turn up on the night and be told the dorm room we'd booked was being painted and they had no other beds. No apologies, no assistance of help, just sent back into the street. Rubbish place. Ended up at Panamericana just round the corner, awesome large privates for cheaper then 2 dorm beds and friendly, helpful service - highly recommend.

Hi Nancy, I'm so sorry about the booking incident. We take full responsibility for the confusion. It had never happened before and will not happen again. Our reception staff did call to set up a stay for you at a great hostel a block away and offered you free drinks at Relic - it was the least we could do as an apology.

I'd like to believe that had you spent time at the hostel, rather than only 10 minutes at reception, you would have understood why so many others are sharing such positive experiences. Regardless, we're glad you enjoyed your stay in Casco Viejo.

The best place to stay in in Panama. And I've stayed in a few. It's safe, affordable, great location, very social, movie nights, San Blas tours and Cartagena boats, amazing kitchen, banana pancakes for breakfast. It's popular, and for a reason, so book ahead so you don't have to stay elsewhere. Enough said.

Room Tip: Make sure it's higher up and with ocean view

I love this hostel. It's a maze of a house when you get inside, with comfy sofas, quieter areas, hammocks, and a lively bar with happy hour every day downstairs. Tours to San Blas and boats for Columbia can be booked at the hostel. It was such a good experience that I extended my stay. One caveat is that Panama City can get quite hot, and the 4 bed female dorm has no ventilation, no window and no a/c, just a ceiling far which is not really adequate for that room. Might be best to opt for one of the larger rooms where there is more space and ventilation - large windows which open into the street. A taxi ride from the domestic airport should be c$5 and from the international airport c.20-25. Casco Viejo is a lovely part of Panama City with lots of bars nearby but with more character than Panama City itself.

There's no better compliment to receive than hearing you added more nights to your stay at Luna's Castle. We're so pleased that you enjoyed our communal areas and embraced the sofas and hammocks. No better place to sneak away for those afternoon siestas. Thank you for the advice about the 4 bed female dorm. We now have additional fans up in that room. We look forward to having you back!

this is a great party hostel. very close walking distance to some of the hottest bars in casco viejo. they also have a bar in the backyard which opens at 8 and stays open until everyone leaves, with an excellent happy hour from 8-930. their rooms are nice, beds more then acceptble, and the security is very good, with large enough lockers even for your backpacks. you will need a cable lock though to secure it. the only negative is the hostel is very loud every night from the front and the back, usually until late at nights, but the inner rooms with no windows are still nice and quiet. a littler pricier then other hostels in the same area, but worth it for all the anemities this hostel has.

Room Tip: the inner rooms are the quietest rooms.

Thanks for the review! Happy Hour prices haven't changed since the day we opened the bar and that's the way it'll stay for a very long time to come. As backpackers, we really enjoy coming together at the close of the day to share stories, drink a few too many beers, and talk about the next day's travel plans. Come back soon. We just got some quality Panama home-grown micro brews on tap in Relic you'll have to try!

Good place to explore casco viejo and the modern part of the city.
There is a Bar in the backyard and bars and restaurant on the street on the other side. So it is pretty noisy in the evening. It is a good place to meet people and party. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Some sinks don’t work and some doors and walls would need a renovation.

Room Tip: 10 bed dorms offer more space and comfort.
