“Nice Place but Needs Supervision by Governmental Administrators”

Description: Seafood plays a central role in Panama City dining—and no place captures it better than the Mercado de Mariscos. At this fish market, you’ll literally bump into fishermen carrying their catches and taking them to the many vendors inside. Be sure to order an affordable and super-fresh cup of ceviche on the first floor—or head to the super-casual but delicious sit-down seafood eatery upstairs.

“Nice Place but Needs Supervision by Governmental Administrators”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Needs Cleaning Supervision and the sewage system should be cleaned up (that's why it smells), outdoor, indoor, bathrooms; employees must follow safe food handling rules throughout the day. Every enterprise, even government corporations must comply. Vendors need to be frequently trained by the governmental entities.
Structure: needs maintenance,
They are responsible of keeping a very close eye on the application of Good Manufacturing Practices and Sanitizing Programs.
Service Not so good: Lacking of attention. Vendors need to be frequently trained by the governmental entities.
As you can see, it can be better if they pay attention to advices hanged out in this reviews.
Good Price: It's the cheapest place in Panamá City. Must be, fishery products are catched nearby and this is an unloading dock.
Watch Out: "Poverty is NOTsynonymous with dirt"

“Great cheviche”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

What's not to like for a cup of great cheviche for 1.25? TRy to find a vender that haven't got the boom box blaring for your listening enjoyment.

“A Panama Icon”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

If you visit Panama for any length of time and enjoy seafood you should visit Mercado de Mariscos. Be advised that it is not chic nor posh locale. It is open air, without air conditioning so it will be HOT and dress accordingly. That being said, once you arrive you will have a plethora of choices of vendors for fresh and very inexpensive seafood enjoyed by all levels of the Panamanian society as well as tourists who enjoy the earthy ambiance and great food there. This is a true Panamanian icon that was even visited by Anthony Bourdain during one of his episodes. I brought some friends who were visiting Panama who usually enjoy fine dining but are adventurous and they loved it.

Seafood for quite reasonable prices at the Mercado de Mariscos in Panamá City. I do recommend it, mainly during the weekends.

“Kiosks right outside the seafood market”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

The food vendors right outside the entrance of the seafood market seemed to have organized and created a simple, but effective row of restaurants of local specialties at very moderate prices. No luxury dining here, just outdoors, with the boisterous sounds of music from each kiosk blasting, until one mercifully tones it off to enjoy real Panamanian food, with local and afroantillina influences. As crazy as it is, one must try it to experience a truly Panamanian experience. The rice flavored with coconut and pigeon peas, was just amazing, accompany with prawns in a creole sauce. My husband had a huge whole seabass (corvina) topped with a seafood sauce, with the coconut rice and ripe plaintain. I've never seen him enjoy his food that much, even though, he is not used to whole fish, but filet. The whole thing is a great experience and highly recommended. P.S. Don't forget the ceviche from the girl at the very first stand to the right as you enter the fish market. It's the best. And take a tour of the seafood market and enjoy the catch of the day, you might be surprised at what you find.
