Amador Ocean View Hotel & Suites
Ranked #96 of 115 Hotels in Panama City
Reviewed 23 January 2013

The views from the Ocean side of this Hotel are great, but be warned that street traffic along the causeway, especially on weekend nights can be horrendous. The parking lot and reception desk for this hotel is extremely tricky to find late at night, and the area is not well lit. It is on the back side of the building.
We were two couples traveling together. The other couple had requested a King bed and were given a Queen that had not been cleaned. Since we got the King, we switched with them at 1AM in the morning. Neither room had the view that we had requested and paid additionally for, so we had to move once again the next day. Many things about this hotel just don't work properly. For example, if you want to make a local call, you have to call the front desk, give them the number, have them place the call, and then transfer it to you. Computer in lobby could not be used to print out boarding passes, because they ran out of ink and were waiting for a new cartridge.
We were told that we would be given a free night when we had problems checking in, but when we tried to verify that with the front desk, we were told that no, we were being offered an extra night,. Not the same thing, nor anything that we could use. Finally they agreed to a rebate of one night.
Hotel is not well maintained. Paint on door handles and on leather headboard, cracked tiles on sloping floors.
Hotel "Manager" is a no-show. She never once came out to speak with us, or others who were having trouble. When we asked to speak with her, the front desk clerk just rolled his eyes.
Take your chances with this hotel if a good price is most important to you. The room we ended up with was acceptable but, if you are not able to argue with them in Spanish as I was, when there is a problem then you might not get satisfaction.

Amador Ocean View is a hotel past it's prime, but it still delivers a quality stay with a great location and comfortable accommodations. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the causeway nearby is a delight!

We arrived late on the night of Oct. 24, 2012. The desk clerk had to have the manager come to run my 4 night room charge on my credit card--he was incapable of doing this. Had to pay for 4 nights immediately before even seeing the room---a bad sign and definitely not standard practice in most hotels. When we went to our room, it was not the Junior suite we had reserved, the manager said that room type was $10 more and was not listed correctly on the internet site. Even thought the hotel was virtually empty, she did not offer to upgrade to the room type we thought we had reserved--so much for customer service and taking responsibility for an incorrect advertised rate. We never saw a swimming pool --must be a well hidden asset and when we returned was surprised that the motel has a picture of one on their web site--where was it? The continental breakfast is juice, coffee or tea and 2 slices of toast-anything else is an additional cost. This hotel is not well maintained and kind of sketchy looking. It is definitely budget at best by American standards. THe drapes, furniture and decor in general are in bad need of replacement. On the positive side: large rooms, comfortable beds, nice views, nice location with shopping and restaurants near by. Probably would not stay here again.

Nice and very clean hotel. Hotel is located in Isla Perico close to Restaurant, amenities and a big Duty Free store. The ocean view from the balcony of my room was awesome, I couldn't ask for more. Went to Isla Contadora and had a beautiful time too. Hotel is 15 minutes from Old Panama. Take a walking tour in Old Panama City it is very interesting lots of history and beautiful views.

Room Tip: all rooms are ocean view, you would have a pleasant time sitting in your private balcony.

This hotel has a great area in a grea little town. We had a nice view from our room and lots to do in this area. The breakfast was good and the room had a good ac system. There are lots of restaurants and shops in this area. Isla perico is our favorite place in Panama now. If we go back to Panama, I will stay here again.

Nice "high class" hotel in Amador. Nice place to stay if you wanna take a boat tour through canal or do a day trip to Isla Taboga bacause the ferries leave from right in front of the hotel.

Not really a place for the backpackers but nice place if you wanna relax for a bit from all the carrying .

We loved the private balcony with view of the panama canal. The folks at the hotel were great and so helpful. They would get us taxis, tour guide, our laundry done, and breakfast was just right with chef George and his team. The hotel held our large luggage when we went to Taboga Island and stayed at Agua Sol Villa for 3 days (great place to stay also). The staff is a cut above!!! Resturants, everywhere and ATM machine nearby. Local cultural shops and a small market all in walking area of hotel. We enjoyed the small 3-4 ft wading pool that was near the jungle and you could hear the birds, watch the joggers, bikers, and enjoy the beautiful view of panama.
