Let me start by saying that I never write reviews and this is my first! Also, I have spent the better half of 15 years working and living in Panama. Therefore, this negative review is not from an uncultured flower-shirted American or European tourist that expects their experiences to be exactly what they would find in their home restaurant. This negative review comes from someone who is well in tune with Panamanian culture, especially when it comes to restaurant staff (the staff members of this restaurant are not great - but they are certainly not abnormally “rude” or “unfriendly”. I had to laugh at some of the hotel-staying tourists making comments).
I have eaten at this particular Fridays multiple times, but this was the first time in about two years. WHAT HAPPENED???
First, the place was completely empty on a Sunday - a bit unusual, especially during the dry season. I now know why. I had a warmer, better burgers and fries from road-side stands in Panama City that cost one dollar (not the outrageous price of $13). My beef patty was not luke warm, it was cold (I am not exaggerating - the actual meat patty was as cold as the tomato slice). The low quality of this dish absolutely floored me. Did I complain to the underpaid person serving me the hamburger (and who also failed to give me a napkin and silverware)? I did not, I never do. In fact, I gave a 15 percent tip (finally putting a slight smile on his face).
The quality of the food was so bad that it was beyond complaining about. Instead, I just chuckled to myself as I slowly threw chunks of the hamburger over the patio fence and fed the birds. As I close this this review and chuck the last remaining bit of the hamburger over the fence, I will continue down to the end of the Causeway and try to find a real Panamanian restaurant, not one stamped by some USA franchise that inevitably attracts American tourists, but fails to live up to their expectations.
