“Tasteful and classy”
Reviewed 23 May 2014 via mobile

When the door opened, I was amazed as the size of the super bright living room and how tastefully it was decorated. The bedroom too was full of grandeur and the bed was so comfortable! Three bathroom was spotless and three tiles in the shower were beautiful! The room also had a full kitchen and made me feel like a had my own apartment in Panama City for a few days! Located in the heart of Casco Viejo, everything you wanted was just a stones throw away. Couldn't recommend this place more!

Thank you for the recommendation! We're delighted you enjoyed your room and your stay within our wonderful neighborhood! The tiles in the bathroom are, indeed, spectacular. We're so glad you noticed them! Best wishes, Carolina

Las Clementinas was a great place to stay for work in the Casco. Quiet, good internets, friendly staff, and easy to get everywhere. Restaurant was great and since the rooms are more like suites it was easy to have a meal in your room if you wanted.

Thank you

When we selected the Las Clementinas Hotel for a stay of 4 nights, two of our main criteria were: located inside the historical center of Panama City and its classification as the best hotel in Trip Advisor. In the e-mails exchanged with the hotel staff, my opinion about the hotel was strongly reinforced: they were extremely nice and helpful with all my questions and requests.
I was expecting to experience something well above the average of the several hotels where we have stayed around the world. However, this did not happen according to my comments below.
The room is quite large with a nice decoration, but the view is ugly: from one side the police station and on the other side there is a ghetto at 5 meters from our windows. At least one feels quite safe with the several police officers around.
The comfort items and amenities are OK, nothing special. The shower has low water pressure, but it was acceptable.
The hotel staff is really quite nice and all of them are willing to help you. However, they have no professional training. For example, we needed to repeat daily our request for extra towels.
The breakfast is not exceptional and sometimes some of the items were not available.
They don’t have laundry lists and one needs to talk with one employee to explain what is needed.
The bed is fair, but small. The spaces for clothes storage are poor, old wardrobes with bad drawers. The internet connection was excellent.
The worst point is that for a similar price, we could have stayed in a five star hotel in Panama, with all the comfort items that those hotels offer to their guests.
To summarize, this is an average hotel neither with very high points nor with strong flaws. I don’t understand how this hotel can be classified by Trip Advisor’s members as the best in town (#1 of 106 hotels). In a next occasion, we will be more careful when using TA’s ranking for our selections.

Dear pingsao, Thank you for taking the time to write your comprehensive review of our hotel. We are sorry you did not find the hotel and location to your liking. Unfortunately, if you are looking for a hotel in the Old City, as you write, oftentimes the view will be what you term "ugly". It is a neighborhood in transition, and certainly there are still many buildings within the neighborhood that are as yet un-restored and house many of the low-income families of the neighborhood. Our staff (and I am very glad you found them helpful), do lack professional training -- if by this you mean formal education. Many come directly from the surrounding neighborhood, because we like to give back and employ as many people from the neighborhood as possible. To us, if gives our guests a much more authentic experience of living in Panama, with the people of the barrio. It also makes our neighbors feel invested in what is going on here, we feel.

Certainly you are correct that we do not offer laundry "lists", but laundry service which does entail you to speak to one of our staff. Again, this is a conscious choice on our part, because our style of service is one based on relationships built with our guests, and always endeavouring to provide whatever is needed for them. And so we try to promote conversations (about laundry, about tours, about the neighborhood, about the food, etc) whenever possible.

We will not be everybody's cup of tea, and we are very sorry we were not yours. Certainly, what we offer is not the same as the modern hotels in the New City. But to those of our guests who are seeking out a more intimate, personalized and authentic experience, I believe we offer the best in the city in that regard. I am always more than happy to receive and discuss suggestions to improve. I may be reached at: manager@lasclementinas.com. Thank you again for your time in reviewing! Carolina

We only stayed one night but it was just perfect. Fantastic staff, very nice small hotel in the old town and very quiet, just what we love... Heard the food is excellent. Too short stay to had the chance to taste it.

The Las Clementinas is a cute boutique hotel in the heart of the old town. The rooms are nicely decorated and spacious, with a balcony overlooking the quarter. Don't miss the view from the rooftop! Friendly staff that make you feel right at home. They are competent and ready to help you with any questions you may have. The food in the restaurant is delicious, there is a nice ambiance. Dining in the secret garden is very romantic.

Hello and thank you for your kind review! We're so happy you enjoyed your stay with us! I completely agree that the garden is one of the most romantic spots in the city for dinner... or any meal of the day. We hope you return! Safe travels, Carolina

Our three night stay here was really great. The "room" was more like a one-bed apartment with homely comfortable furniture. Sadly our itinerary only allowed us to have one of their lovely breakfasts, but we also enjoyed a good meal in their lovely garden restaurant. The location was good for exploring the old city and for passing our leisure time in the many coffee shops and good restaurants. We would certainly return if we are in this part of the world again - provided our knees are still OK, because it's a steep climb to the rooms! (no lift).

We so appreciate your time in writing about your stay with us. We couldn't be happier that you enjoyed your experience in both the hotel and restaurant. As you may have heard, we are in the process of expansion, and perhaps should you return and elevator will be there to give all knees a rest! Kind regards, Carolina

This was our first visit to Panama City and we chose "Las Clementinas" because of its proximity to "Casco Viejo", the historic quarters and the original Panama City.

"Casco Viejo" is the heart of Panama and should not be missed! The history of this place is fascinating and the ongoing restoration work is amazing! In a few short years it will be "the" place to be but even now, it is bustling with trendy gourmet restaurants and beautifully restored buildings and hotels, such as "Las Clementinas"!

"Las Clementinas" is not a hotel in its traditional sense as it is really a lovingly restored apartment building dating back to the 1930's! The rooms are all small apartments with air conditioning, original hardwood flooring, French doors, high ceilings, beautiful wrought iron balconies and a large roof top terrace with a phenomenal view of New Panama and the ocean! Very French and very charming! (Only drawback: The building has NO elevator!)
The housekeeping is impeccable, rooms are kept very clean and the beds are heavenly...!
The staff are very friendly and professional in general but do not expect everyone to be fluent in English! As a matter of fact, we found that there are a lot of Panamanians that do NOT speak English or not very well, so if you speak a bit of Spanish, you will be much better off.

The hotel also features a lovely, casual bistro-style restaurant and it would be worth wile eating dinner there at least once as the food is very fresh, tasty and lovingly presented! If you like classical music and restaurant manager Carlos Arenas is on duty, please don't hesitate to ask him to play some Chopin piano pieces! It will blow you away and give you goose bumps!!!
Breakfast is a very slow process and is NOT recommended if you are in a hurry...

The hotel is in a great location on the edge of "Casco Viejo", but because of the area's rather small size, everything is still in walking distance from the hotel!
What might be a bit unsettling for some people is the fact that the hotel borders on to a rather poor area of town and the view from your room might not be so pretty... However, the police headquarters are also located right beside the hotel and during the entire week we were there, it was very peaceful and walking out of the hotel, we alway just headed right into "Casco Viejo" anyway and not the other way...

All in all, we had a wonderful time and would absolutely stay at "Las Clementins" again!
Thank you to Miguel, Arturo/Mitchell and Carlos Arenas for making our stay a memorable one!

Room Tip: All rooms are nice and feature balconies but a higher floor might be more desirable. We stayed in...
