We loved everything about this place. We had researched so much about the area ahead of time that we knew there would be construction noise. We came prepared with good earplugs! The staff was very helpful, and we always had a friendly smile and Hola from the doorman. I think what we liked most was the feeling of being part, just for a little while, of a rebuilding of something really unique. We would sit on our little deck for hours at night , drinking wine, and imagine how Casco Viejo would look in five years. There was usually music playing somewhere, which just enhanced the night. We stayed in Chagres, an automatic upgrade and huge apartment. We wished we had time to use the complete kitchen, but we always felt the pull of the wonderful restaurants in walking distance. We stayed four nights, but felt we hadn't even scratched the surface of this amazing town. We plan to come back in five years to see how it all turns out!

Room Tip: The balcony was used constantly.

We really wanted to like this place - but there were a few things that really made the stay disappointing. Positives first - great location for exploring Casco Viejo, staff was very accommodating in making reservation and asking questions via email, awesome roof deck with views of city. Negatives - there was construction right outside our window on the street in front of the hotel the whole time we were there. It started at 7:30 every morning and pretty much lasted all day. This of course is not the hotel's fault - but, in my opinion they should have let us know when we made the reservation or offered a discount given the inconvenience. We stayed in the Kleimman room - overall it was nicely appointed and roomy with two balconies. However, my son, who slept in the second bedroom, woke each morning with huge bug bites - more each morning. When he slept with us in the main bedroom, he woke with none. We let the staff know, and showed them the bites, which had developed into large welts by this time; but they did not seem concerned. We were not asking for a discount or any renumeration, but some sort of genuine apology or concern would have been nice.

Room Tip: Ask if there will be construction before making a reservation.

We stayed for 2 nights sightseeing old Panama City ( Casco Viejo) before going to Coronado Bay. These apartments are so close to so much we could have stayed another 2 nights easy. The rooftop terrace was used both nights for pizza and beer. It was like having our own restaurant without the crowds or loud music. The view of Casco Viejo and the skyline of Panama City was spectacular. Once we found parking, which can be an issue due to construction right out front, we never had to use the car. There are safe inexpensive parking lots close by though once you get setup. Walking the Casco Viejo was very safe from the parking lot, local convenience store or from any of the restaurants. We would highly recommend the 2 day Hop-on Hop-off which you can buy from their front office. If you like fish, walk to the fish market for ceviche and/or the sea bass.

My mother and I stayed here for one night so I could explore Casco Viejo more than just a drive through in a taxi. Casa Antigua is located right as you enter into the area off the main road so there is some construction going on and lots of loud/noisy cars. Besides the street traffic noise this place was awesome! We had an awesome room with the most amazing view of the city skyline. The front desk lady was so helpful in showing us around on the map to find different tourist attractions and she made some good suggestions on places to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a 24 hour security guard at the front door to help with your bags and taxi transportation. This area will be amazing once they are done with all of the construction and shut down the roads for the cars and make it foot traffic only.

Unfortunately the construction does not really ever stop at a certain time and the taxis really love to honk those horns. None of this is Casa Antigua's fault though so they should not lose any credit because of this. If you are looking to get a good night sleep I would suggest picking a room that is not located right by the street.

I definitely suggest going up to the roof top terrace at sunset to see the skyline view. It is a beautiful place! And I will definitely be coming back to Casa Antigua!

Staff is excellent!!

Loved our 3 nights at Casa Antigua. It is right in the heart of the old town, referred to as Casco Viejo or Casco Antiguo. You can walk everywhere. Don't let the entrance/lobby discourage you. As mentioned there is construction everywhere in the city & renovations in this charming boutique hotel are ongoing. We stayed in the 1 bedroom apartment (Paseo las Bovedas), tiny kitchen with just a hot plate (no stove), fridge, microwave, coffee maker & a reasonable selection of dishes & cutlery. Tiny dining area. A/C in bedroom, good clean bed, large bathroom & walk-in closet. The best part was the circular staircase in the Kitchen that leads to the roof top terrace. We had direct access, but it is a shared terrace with other guests. Having said that this is such a small hotel, we never saw other guests on the terrace, so we had it all to ourselves! Most rooms have balconies. The terrace offers a 360 degree panorama of the City - spectacular.

Intriguing how 4 star hotels and restaurants sit right beside the squalor of falling down buildings inhabited by squatters. Katina warned about areas that "are not safe", however by day 3 we were walking amongst the locals at the markets with no problem. Fish Market was great and you must walk into the modern city via Cinta Costera, the seaside walkway.

Terrific staff, very helpful & friendly with good English. Charming security guard who helped us with our bags up the final flight of stairs out of the elevator.
One recommendation: The apt needs a full-length mirror and a better make-up mirror in the bathroom. I was never sure what I looked like when going out in the evening.

Room Tip: Las Bovedas is very good value, although there is a steep staircase to access it out of the elevator...

Great location in Casco Viejo. Very reasonably priced, clean and great layout and decor. We had a simple room with a view (no balcony), but this was great. Must spend time on the rooftop terrace with incredible view looking out towards new Panama across the bay and over Casco. Especially thankful to the staff and security who helped secure parking for our rental car which was a chore given the massive construction occurring in the city and dealings with the policio. Thank you very much! Would recommend this accomodation.
