We wanted to see the locks at the Panama Canal and opted to see it first hand from land vs/ going on the boat. I'm very happy that we opted for this.

If you want to see the view of the locks I suggest that you to to the locks itself vs/ going on the boat. We arrived at the restaurant and had to wait for about an hour before being seated so I suggest that you make reservations before going especially if you have older people, kids and people that need to eat on time. The waiting room was not very comfortable and for the number of people that were waiting some of us had to stand or sit on the sides of the chairs. MAKE THOSE RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE!!!

When we got in there was a buffet spread and I think that we got in close to the ending of Lunch (especially after waiting so long). The menu was average and in comparison to the price it wasn't too bad. We had someone with us that was gluten intolerant and, unfortunately, there was no menu for her. The selection ranged from pork, chicken, fish, breads, potato, salads and vegi's. Very average but it was also well cooked and seasoned.

The highlight of the day were the boats that passed while we were eating. For the best views it is wise to dine on the outside if you can get space, especially if it is rather cool. If it is hot then choose a window seat it is well worth it.

For the experience of watching the boats from a seated comfortable position and hanging out with family and friends I enjoyed myself. It wasn't perfect but it was far from terrible too.

We came for Father's Day brunch, and watched the boats go through the Miraflores Locks portion of the Panama Canal. The brunch food was very good. Not excellent but very good. Service was surprisingly great considering they have a built in clientele of tourists from all over the world. Best view is outside on the patio.

If you go to Panama, you have to see the canal, there is three ways to see the canal, air, sea and land. If your on a cruise, well that is great, if you can charter a plane, that is better, but if you are a "landlova" than Miralocks, is a great option. Here is the reason, your going to sit and want to see a few boats (ships) go through the lock, it is not the most scenic part of the canal, but it is the most interesting. Well if you going to sit, you may as well plan lunch around it, which is what we did. Now the food is a 4 and the service is a 3.5, (although they try hard), but the experience and view are a 6. You are up stairs from the general tourist, it is pricey for Panama standards, so we were there for the first seating with 2 other couples, no one else was in the restaurant. Your several floors up, which makes this a great location to watch the ships go though the locks. Make sure to get a table on the out side patio with a view over the MiraFlores Locks or there is no point. I will warn you that a few times guests from the other tables would crowd up next to the railing while your trying to eat, sometimes with young children, so I would go for a early or late lunch to avoid the crowd... probably early, so the food is fresh.
The buffet is offered for lunch and dinner. Warning food runs out quick on the Buffett and doesn't always get replenished fast, we did the lunch, but I hear it is also good at sunset.
Meal for 2 people with no drinks $75. They do not accept AMEX or Discover, they do take Master Card and Visa, but in Panama, everyone takes US cash with a smile.
The price of the meal is worth the VIP view of the MiraFlores Locke. Despite some reviews, the food was not bad (it is just expensive for what you get) so those reviews are probably just winey. The spread appeared pretty well maintained while I was there, which is more than I can say for many of the restaurants I was forced to eat at while in Panama. If sunset is your gig, I would advise you head inland to Balboa park and stay over night at the resort. Best not to drive the canal zone after dark, best not to drive anywhere in Panama after dark. Save room for sweets, they were above par and so was the soups. Make sure you check out the museum and movie downstairs and be prepared for the walk from the parking lot, it is a hike.

The view of the lock was so amazing from the restaurant that it was well worth the price for the buffet. We thought twice about it because $37 seemed high but the quality of the food was better than any buffet I ever had. Linen tablecloths and napkins provided a formal lunch setting. The service was excellent and two ships went through the lock while we were there. We were in awe the whole time. We were not rushed and were at the restaurant for about two hours. There was salmon, chicken, pork, salad options and a large dessert bar. Everything was excellent, there was good variety and nothing was bland. It was well worth the price for the atmosphere, view and outstanding food,

At Miraflores Restaurant you can have a excellent buffet dinner, an excellent wine selection and still enjoy the view of one of the marvelous of the modern engineer. While you’re having dinner you can watch the ships been raised some 48ft in two steps at the “eclusas”. It’s something that pays of your whole trip.
