We wanted to see the locks at the Panama Canal and opted to see it first hand from land vs/ going on the boat. I'm very happy that we opted for this.
If you want to see the view of the locks I suggest that you to to the locks itself vs/ going on the boat. We arrived at the restaurant and had to wait for about an hour before being seated so I suggest that you make reservations before going especially if you have older people, kids and people that need to eat on time. The waiting room was not very comfortable and for the number of people that were waiting some of us had to stand or sit on the sides of the chairs. MAKE THOSE RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE!!!
When we got in there was a buffet spread and I think that we got in close to the ending of Lunch (especially after waiting so long). The menu was average and in comparison to the price it wasn't too bad. We had someone with us that was gluten intolerant and, unfortunately, there was no menu for her. The selection ranged from pork, chicken, fish, breads, potato, salads and vegi's. Very average but it was also well cooked and seasoned.
The highlight of the day were the boats that passed while we were eating. For the best views it is wise to dine on the outside if you can get space, especially if it is rather cool. If it is hot then choose a window seat it is well worth it.
For the experience of watching the boats from a seated comfortable position and hanging out with family and friends I enjoyed myself. It wasn't perfect but it was far from terrible too.
