Don't expect to have a full night's restful sleep. We stayed Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights. We loved the layout, the modern decor of the common spaces, the spacious rooms and absolutely unique fun paintings (including the crown painted on the wall behind the bathroom door so that when staring in the bathroom mirror you felt like royalty)! The hotel restaurant was delicious too! They included breakfast means ordering anything off the menu (its all so savory) and during supper we payed for absolutely delicious tapas.
This boutique hotel has a lot going for it EXCEPT it does not offer a restful night's sleep.
We knew it had a roof top bar on the fourth-floor and were excited for it! Given the decor of the rest of the hotel, we expected it to be a chic setting offering a classy environment with an amazing vista of the entire Casco Vieja and the skyscrapers of downtown. We didn't anticipate a full-out night club. Sleepless night #1.
Our room was on the third floor and our ceiling served as a sub-woofer shaking the walls and bed until 4 am Saturday night/Sunday morning. We had been travelling since early the day before, from Costa Rica, and had a full-day planned for our first day in Panama.
When I raised my concerns to the front house staff they made comments about the rooms being tested for decibel levels, the windows being double-panned, and the fact that the website clearly shows the rooftop patio at night. I responded that I couldn't hear my television at full volume, the noise wasn't coming from the street and the website picture didn't show the rooftop full of intoxicated twenty-something's dancing.
On Sunday night we ate at the restaurant and then went to the roof top patio; taking a "if you can't beat them, join them" kinda approach. We enjoyed ourselves and settled in for the night around 11 pm, exhausted from our busy day and lack of rest the night before. Shortly after that's when it started. The neighboring apartments, in an act of retaliation, started blasting their music from their balcony with a large speaker perched and aimed towards our building. This went on for several hours accompanied by them yelling and screaming to people on the street. Sleepless night #2.
Finally, Monday night we had a restful sleep after midnight when the lobby bar/restaurant shut down. Unfortunately, we had an early morning commute to the airport and 6 am came all too soon.
Ear plugs should be considered mandatory. This stylishly chic boutique hotel has a lot of great stuff going for it and if we're to make a clear cut from trying to be a night club, it would easily be a 4.5-star stay in my books!
