Three nights in the hotel in early January awaiting a cruise that started in Colon. We were there mostly because we're Hilton Honors Diamond. Worst, I talked some good friends that we travel with into staying there as well. I figured our diamond status might wear off a bit on them. Were we wrong!
Absolutely gorgeous room. Comfortable, with a nice view of the ocean. Very nice staff. Presentable, with very good English skills.
Nice restaurant for breakfast (more on this later).
The staff was unable to make reservations for us. We would get a reservation, show up, and have to start from scratch.
The first taxi the hotel arranged for us charged us $30 for what turned out to be a $8 (normal price) ride. We complained, and the conceirge basically said we were wrong and the driver must have meant $13. Even. my weak Spanish knows the difference.
Even though our room cleaning was basically OK, our friends room didn't get done until 6pm.
The restaurant for breakfast was great the first morning, but the next two days we were forced into a crummy space because a wedding had commandeered the normal restaurant.
Our friends are light breakfast eaters and the last two mornings they had to buy a full buffet breakfast(two for $40) in order to get anything to eat.
The above-mentioned wedding really took over the hotel. Not only the restaurant, but three entire floors were locked out of the elevators for two whole days.
Also, we lost the use of the pool (wedding again) and were told to go to the Doubletree pool about a 1/2 mile away. Filthy pool and anyone could come right off the street and walk right in and use it.
In NO way did the hotel seem like a top line property. Hilton should be ashamed of the place.
I have contacted Hilton hhonors and asked for a refund of at least two of the nights. They seemed not too interested, but said they would send me a check for one night. We shall see.
