We had one of the most expensive suites in the hotel (platinum), and one day the hot water line/pipe in 1 of the bathrooms suddenly broke, and we only noticed about an hour later when both bedrooms and the living room of our suite were under transformed into a pool and the clothes were floating in it.
A technician came to see whats up and after he made a few phone calls, we were told we were gonna get a different room and all our clothes were gonna get cleaned for free. We only had to put it all in bags. Luckily no electrical equipment got wet, but 1 non-rigid bag got all wet with everything inside it and clothes we had lying all over our suite got all wet (incl. new clothes we had just bought.)
We made bags with clothes for the hotel to wash, which were given back about an hour later saying we needed to fill out the laundry form, so no clothes could get lost.
We were very busy (visiting the canal and other stuff) the next few days, so it took us 2-3 days to bring the dirty clothes to laundry again.
When I gave the clothes, we got a phone call saying that the hotel wouldn't pay for the laundry, as it wasn't a "hotel service", but instead an external service.
We were instead offered a LATE CHECKOUT (LOL!) and after complaining and saying it wasn't our fault that the room was faulty, we were given the option to get a 10% discount for 1 night. (Let me add that we were paying about 375 USD/night for this suite were we were staying for 8 nights! 38 USD discount wouldn't cover half of the laundry service!) We warned the hotel that if they wouldn't clean our clothes, we would leave. (It would have cost them peanuts to clean it for us.)
Eventually, they wouldn't budge, so we left. They refunded the night I had prepaid, plus all the tips I had given to the staff. It's sad how they just let clients go like that.
While checking out, I was offered to check back in at a reduced rate, but I had already booked with another hotel. Too little too late. (And as it turned out... I went to a drycleaner myself later that day, and it only cost me 27 USD.....)
