Owner description: Called the “French Plaza” in English, this pleasant spot offers great views and a leisurely spot in which to purchase and savor raspados (fruity snow cones) on hot, humid days. Housed in this plaza is the elegant Instituto Nacional de Cultura (National Institute of Culture), which was among the sites used for “Quantum of Solace,” a 2008 James Bond film that supposedly took place in Bolivia and Haiti but was filmed in Panama. Formerly the Supreme Court building, the Instituto now houses a small theater and hosts cultural events.

Go ahead and make the trek up the steps and delight yourself with the sea breeze while snapping pictures with the wonderful panoramic view of Panama City's downtown. You will also find over a dozen stalls of Kuna women selling their molas among other crafts.

its a nice look over the see and it has a lot of history from the french presence in Panama. you only need 20 mins or so there. There is a walk way where you get get some souveniers at a bargain price.

Visited on Sunday afternoon. Lots of colorful vendors and some street performers. Great view of city skyline.

the view was terrific, from the Bridge of the Americas to the Causeway down to the City skyline(Marbella area).the French Embassy building looked pretty distinctive & the narrow streets with its' restored colonial structures gave the area a very European ambience. what spoiled it all was the presence of numerous vendors plus the litter that they generated.

Worth seeing. It is a matter of personal preference whether you like this plaza better than, say plaza Bolivar, but worth the visit. Many of the outdoor craft stalls have apparently moved here from Plaza Catedral.
